One day the New York TImes will stop running articles that amount to "women are remarkably similar to humans men."

Of course, empires will rise and fall before that happens.

I almost laughed out loud at that. Like we'd react by, what, gazing soulfully at the moon?

It reminds me of the surveys that say some percentage of women would prefer to work at home and be with their family. I bet we're not the ONLY ones who'd like that!

*reads article*

Oh, for heaven's sake...

(meanwhile, on another topic entirely, I finally laid my hands on a copy of Twilight Streets. It is, indeed, made of awesome)

The point the article makes, which I think is valid, is that until now, in this regard women have *not* been remarkably similar to men. The structure of our society has changed drastically in the last few decades, yet recent assumptions made by experts about gender difference roles with regard to career motivation and family obligations were still being based on an outdated model.

Oh dear, and one of those women had the nerve to not stay home but rather go to school full time? The audacity!

What happened to that trend in the 90s, the stay at home dad, Mr. Mom? Why wouldn't men have been leaving the work force to do that?

Oh wait....right, the article presumes women left by Choice and men didn't. Right.

Twits.

I read this this morning. I am mostly annoyed that their assumption that women were leaving the workplace to become baby factories is the basis for the entirely overblown "mommy wars."

Offensive Headline

The Houston Chronicle ran this article under the headline 'Gender equality - in job woes'. I think it sets a different tone. It took me a while to realize that is probably why I wasn't offended this morning.
