What if games with horrific scenarios are admittedly popular (lord knows, I'm in fandom, which is just filled with emotional wankery over unsolvable problems of loss and despair and I often love it), but wow LJ, not necessary. Because my city is still fucked up emotionally, physically and fiscally from 9/11/2001 and I'd like it to be over now.

I agree. I also hate it when people ask shit like, "If x and y were drowning and you could only save one of them, who would it be?"

Dude, LOVE your icon. I really think of the best moment of TW ever was Owen flipping the fuck out at actually having to die in that nuclear facility. Stellar fucking acting from Gorman there.

thank you.

while those of us who aren't new yorkers can't really *get* it like you can, the astounding emotion is still everywhere. on a piano teacher's listserv i write on, usually THE most fact-oriented and benign place ON the intar-planet, someone innocently asked what other piano teachers were doing on 9.11 and it released a shitstorm of unprecedented magnitude.

Yeah, people try to use it like the new weather, and you can't do it in general environments. New Yorkers can do it to each other in certain contexts, even with strangers, but seriously, isn't not an idle question.

I went to a large family gathering in summer '02 in Arizona, and everyone knew I'd been at school, at NYU, on 9/11. Made for fun party conversation, I'll tell you. "So, what was it like in the city that day?" "Oh, terrifying, thanks for asking. Pass the chips?" It was family, so I didn't feel I could just say "I'd rather not talk about it" though I know that was the vibe I gave off.

Then there was the day that my psychotic grandmother (who lived on Long Island with us) said something along the lines of "Rebuild the towers even higher - then let them come attack them again." I got up from the dinner table and walked out.

seriously. the part about 9/11 that really really really got under my skin was hearing all the stories about people trapped on the top floors calling their loved ones to say goodbye and i love you one last, final time. i can't fucking imagine.

No kidding. The people on the planes were what made it horrifying.

Ugh. I remember riding the 2 train on the 5th anniversary from the Bronx down to Astor Place and everyone was really quiet and thoughtful.

Now that I have, however unwillingly, thought about it, I don't see how I could call anyone, seeing as they would be hearing me about to die, and then hearing me die.
I also don't want to die while I'm "doing it' for about the same reason: bad for the other person.
