- Last night was Kat's birthday. I didn't drink _that_ much, but it was tequila. I spent most of today going "wow, what a pleasant non-hangover," then I went to dance class, rather inexplicably had palak paneer for lunch, got hit with a wave of vertigo, and _now_ actually feel human. Spectacular.

- Patty has acquired our tickets to Dragon*Con, amazing, on my favorite airline, although I don't think she knows that. So this is really happening. Woah.

- I am still obsessing on this Vienna Teng song and will upload for you later, I think.

- PDFs of the Dances of Vice program book are up and they look fabulous.

- As hilarious as Jill and I cosplaying on the flight to Chicago would theoretically be (because really, my eternal tirade about commercial aviation is inherently funnier if I'm dressed like Jack), we decided that the wonder of the sonic screwdriver prop item meeting those friendly folks at the TSA is a scenario best avoided. Also, it's too hot for all that clothing and I don't really want to do that battle with my hair that early in the morning. All of that said, at some point there's going to be a bunch of Torchwood cosplay at Terminus, because we're odd, and Marci is bringing her Ianto suit.

- OH MY GOD, I have got to get these papers done.

- Have to register for the Victorian Holiday Ball. Have to register for the Assembly. Am really thinking about doing this 1918 Armistice Day thing in New Jersey in September, but that's probably just me being an asshole and involves clothing ideas I simply will not have time to execute in time and are also Entirely Unnecessary (a phrase which is generally a code for Best Idea Ever, but let's leave that aside for now). Am really psyched for Governor's Island on September, since it won't be as vile as it was over the summer. Presumably.

- At the office. Will wrap up here soon and then head home to other work and domestic matters.

The TSA generally frowns upon attempts at using Psychic Paper as one's Photo ID. Especially when they're pretending to be a fictional character.

Hahahahaahah.

Can I just say please please please let me not have a TSA moment on this trip? Going to Sicily there was the great invisible bottle drama. I also like when they interrogate me about what country I'm from when I'm using a US passport.

Oh yeah. It's the name thing. It's one of the reasons I've toyed with changing it over the years. About half the time I fly I get, after the standard security questions "Where are you from?" And then when I say "here" they keep asking, and I keep saying I was born in the US, and eventually they get bored, but it's always unpleasant.

Yes, because Americans don't ever have ethnic sounding names. Never ever.

You should hear the stories Kali has about Traveling While Brown.

I find it so weird that they give you a hard time. I've never had a problem, in fact Italian security waved me through the line and didn't even look at my passport when I went to Rome, granted that was pre-September 11th.

Alan has had problems though. The long hair and goatee and makes him a target for all sorts of extra security when we travel. He has a non-identifiable ethnic look which makes security distrust him.

Our family confuses the hell out of customs people, but they usually figure we'd have a better cover story if we were up to something, and give up.

Traveling with cousins, to a family reunion or a wedding or something, is especially interesting, since very few of us look 'white'(despite our unifying common Irish/English ancestry.) Fortunately, I can rattle off genealogical information without missing a beat."Yes, we're related:her (*points*) paternal grandfather's mother was my mothers (*points*) maternal grandmother's sister!"
The appropriate body language here is My God, I Have Fallen Among Hillbillies.

But you sound like a New Yorker!
Answer with the borough name, and disbelieving body language, and possibly "...where YOU from?"
