About to go wing the dueling paper under the belief that I am always smart and constantly hilarious. At least I think so after sharing the stage with Melissa Anelli last night. she was lovely and it was great for getting more attention for my book, but seriously? Seriously seriously? This totally encapsulated what I thought would weird me out about SDCC, except instead of being in the audience for it, I was on stage. Good practice, I think for Dragon*Con -- more on that later, no time.
I continue to dress in 1940s girl awesomeness. Today it's a blue check gingham blouse with cap sleaves with my navy slacks and grey braces. Yes, seriously. My hair is all twisted up into a big fabulous thing on top of my head, bright lipstick, little cat-eye glasses and I am so funny. Soooo funny. It's interesting learning how to work this and disturbing how much slack people will cut you if you're a) confident and b) something they want to look at. It almost makes up for not being a rock star.
Last night there were fireworks again. We were hanging out in the hotel room to get away from people -- me and Jill and Marcy and a Jill's friend Lisa and I heard the retort off the buildings again and I made us all run downstairs, and I ran through traffic in my little green dress and seamed stockings to get to the bridge so I could catch the very end of the show, but I hadn't wanted to see it, so much as feel it in my chest as it bounced back and forth off the stone. The position wasn't as good for the creepy acoustics, but I was still pleased and amused.
Time to go do this thing and hope I can fake it as well as I think I can.

Date: 2008-08-10 05:13 pm (UTC)I had a prof who had this down to an exact science. She taught theatre history at our theatre department, which was two, full-year, required courses for every student who went through the program. Basically she had to cram a purely academic course down the throughts of a bunch of the biggest flakes imaginable (most that came into first and second year ranged in age from 17-19.)
She managed it by being:
a) truly and unutterably brilliant
b) a complete and total hard-ass that everyone knew would not give an inch on due dates or grades no matter how convincing your story was (it was a theatre department after all.)
c) so fabulous that every student who went through there worshipped the ground that she walked on and considered it a genuine honour to study with her. Gay men and straight women were in love with her.
I remember one class where she turned up for class wearing (this was a woman in her mid-forties mind you) genuine sailor pants, a middy blouse, Olive Oyle shoes, pigtails and square chunky black framed glasses waaaay before mod had ever even thought of making a comeback.
*sigh*
My hero:-)
