Let's say I needed a male pseudonym for some fiction writing purpose. You know, just hypothetically. For now.

What would it be?

While I would prefer it not be overtly ridiculous (although you may have other notions) and actually feel comfortable to me, I know I've just opened a giant can of worms for you all to play with.

I like word puzzles, and since I'm new to Dr Who and Torchwood, I recently learned they were anagrams of each other.

OK, more seriously: how about "Dmitri"?

Richard may be what we're going with for the dance situation thing (have I posted about that?) although I will probably just use my first initial there.

I have, but I wasn't consciously thinking of them. I plead general incompetence at memorizing names.

I think I'll quit while I'm behind and endorse "Martin" below. It's uncommon enough not to be bland and common enough not to be weird, which is what I was shooting for.

Beyond the obvious reference TW reference, since you have such an usual female name I think that something simple and straightforward like Jack is very suitable for a male psuedonym. While I don't have any other suggestions off the top of my head I think this is the direction you might want to explore.

What is happening with the dance situation? Wacky gender registration rules?

Date: 2008-09-12 10:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rm.livejournal.com
There is one dance that is strictly gendered balance for reasons that are suspected to be pretty fucked up. So Patty and I are registering as a couple, I'll go in drag, and really, if they give us shit when I'm dressed like a man and they've already cashed our check and I'm there to dance with women? Yeah. Bad on them.

Hee.

I'd been thinking of Jack Tuckahoe as somewhat film noir, but then I'm somewhat biased by the fact it shares origins with my username (yes, I am a railgeek).

Failtastic about the dance peeps, but glad you're subverting them. :)

Hmm. Richard Martlet? (A "martlet" is a kind of heraldic bird.)

I like this one, because it has the flavor of her real name without getting all weird. (I'm considering a male pen name built along the same lines.)

Date: 2008-09-23 06:07 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] gina-r-snape.livejournal.com
Thanks. That's what I was aiming for. And, I can sorta see her as a Martin. Couldn't you? I'd say "male alter ego" but it wouldn't be fair to her gender queer sensibilities.

[livejournal.com profile] rm, if you decide on a name to use, will you tell us? :-)
