Our house was robbed. Gone is jewlery, electronics, etc.
In many ways we were very lucky.
We're both fine and safe. The cats are fine. Patty had her laptop with her. And they missed a few not insignificant things. Some of the things they did take are one of a kind items, easy to track if they end up on Ebay.
I'm now back at work finishing work. Patty is waiting for the evidence collection squad (we already talked to the cops and the detectives).
We'll stay at my mother's tonight and get window guards installed tomorrow which is a financial hit I can't even make myself think about right now.
I'm some mix of sad and angry and in shock and trying not to feel guilty or weird. I'm doing pretty good. Patty's coping (she's the one that came home to find it) really great.
But after a week like this, it's hard not to wonder what I did to deserve this.
Patty says we'll have a streak of good luck now.
If nothing else, we're now forced to clean the bedroom once and for all.

Date: 2008-10-16 03:53 am (UTC)[Also, I don't know if this would work for you but I got bars put on my windows by saying I babysit (which is a slight stretch of the truth considering how rarely I do it) and because of that I have children in the house meeting the age requirements wherein the landlord is legally required to put them on--though there is paperwork to submit to make this happen.]
