Gallifrey One

I am now holding two rooms for Thurs - Sun nights at Gallifrey One at con rates. This is a minor miracle, as the room block has sold out repeatedly and you may be shit out of luck by now. If space if available in said rooms, I'll post here once my immediate group confirms their plans. If you are interested in being in one of our rooms, let me know, as there will be at least a space or two even if my whole current grouping is in.

Hooray! Hooray! I'm so excited that you're going!

Yup, I've been in for a while, but I have several friends who haven't made decisions yet and the room block drama was freaking me out, so I grabbed a second room to be sorted out later.

*nods* Smart thinking. I'm guessing G20 is going to be even bigger than G19...

I think it's easily going to be the biggest, yet.

I just hope the con never gets *too* big. I like it the size it is, now, or a little bigger. But if they went past, say 2,000 (more than double the biggest year yet, granted) then I'd probably be a bit put off. One of the attractions of Gally (and Chicago, obviously) is the relative smallness of it.

After witnessing SDCC, I'll never complain about a 4,000-person gaming convention for being "too big" ever again! :)

I'm hoping it's on teh small side too. One of the things I love about HP cons is that they are about 1,000 - 1,500 people, and in a situation like that I feel like I can talk to everyone I want to (of course, I do programming at them, so basically everyone talks to me). But yeah, after Dragon*Con, I think I'll be grateful for the small. I do think this might push 2K though, especially if the guest list gets any cooler.

Well, last year was the biggest on record with, hrm, I think it was a hair under 900. So it would have to be quite a significant jump (and probably a staggering shock to the con chair!) if the con doubled in size.

Mind you, this is the earliest the con room block has sold out - and it's been extended twice, already...

I think TW changes the equation entirely. Now that (obsessive and young) slashers have found Torchwood, Gallifrey has a whole new audience for its con. With GDL as a guest? That shit's gonna top out at over 2K, I really think.

*nod* given that most hotels let you cancel clear up until the day of arrival, I've always found it easier to book a room immediately and cancel, if needed.

Speaking of which, I might need to find some roomies, too. I'd hoped to have the dosh to have a room to myself (closet space! A towel for every limb!) but I don't think that's going to be manageable...

I have a room at con rates, but it is looking like we won't be able to go... so if it can be transferred, ours will be up for grabs too.

You know I'm in.

Yup. Right now we have me, you, Marci and Jill. I also may have three other friends coming, which would bring us to 7 -- hence the two rooms.
