Just got the measurements on the coat (the one I am most worried about? the shoulders? 16.5 - 16.75 they said. The shoulders on my coat that fits me perfectly? 14.5 - 14.75. Two inches is not terrible, ne?). I _think_ it's doable and will give me enough extra fabric off the bottom to make the proper belt for it.

ETA: trying to arrange time to try on coat now.

ETA2: Crappy weapons policy at Gallifrey One, so I can't bring the Webley resin model. Tell me that this is not a good excuse to build a hand in a jar. Because that's a stupid, stupid project, right?

Yeah. Turns out the coat is in the city (this is an Ebay drama) so I'm working it out with the guy now. I really, really, have my fingers crossed on this, because it's this or wait until someone makes a decent copy of the coat that is not the China Dragon one which is WRONG WRONG WRONG, because any of the military surplus coats are just going to be too big on me (although that gave me another idea, which is pretend I'm working in costuming for a play, and call a bunch of high school military academies to find out if they have greatcoats in their uniforms (a lot do) and then get one close to my size that way).

Good idea with the military academies! It's amazing how often people are happy to accommodate you if they know/think it's for theatre. I have accounts at several wholesalers in town I shouldn't because I've called searching for a particular costume piece or prop. Very useful around Halloween for personal purposes.
