Call me uneducated, but I had no idea there is so much hatred for same-sex-marriage in the States. I'm fairly disgusted right now, I'm gonna have to read up on this proposition 8, before I can make a comment less ignorant.
Oh. Yeah. It's really bad. It's not not legal because no one has gotten around to it. It's not legal because in at least half the country it would be political suicide for any politician to support it.
People forget the degree to which the early settlers here with religious conservatives who were prosecuted in their own countries. We carry that legacy loudly.
Yeah it's funny - in a very sad way - how people can forget. Probably why there are no issues here (Germany), forgetting is not something most people will allow to happen, or so I hope.
My husband and I were talking yesterday, and while we really don't have the money to do so comfortably, we're going to donate to No on Prop 8. It's just...too important not to. Unfortunately, we don't live in CA currently, so we can't vote on it. My husband lived in San Jose until college, when he went to San Diego (we both went to college there, and I was there a couple years prior to that). His family is all there and his mom has been telling him about all the insanity that's been going on over this.
Reminds me of the bad old days working clinic defense in the 70s and 80s. Gods, those people were insane. And there was little, if any, police protection back then; shaking out the Freedom of Speech element from the right of people to walk from their car to the front doorway of a place that provided a perfectly legal procedure took some time. So we were it.
