sundries

- I dreamed Patty and I went to Australia. This is, no doubt, because [livejournal.com profile] schpahky sent me a thing about a contest to do a trailer for Australia and win a trip and the opportunity to meet Baz Luhrmann. I wish I knew anything at all about editing. Because this would be a fixation of epic proportions.

- It seems I now have a dream-city version of Sydney, because when I dream of it, I always go to the same places which doesn't exist. Even a cash machine, where I also hit the wrong button first, and wind up with some Korean won.

- I woke up with the realization that I can take the coat to the tailor all of fencing swears by -- they took in the legs of some pants for Sangsook by like 6 sizes or something.

I find, believe it or not, going to the tailor in general traumatic. Like dentsists and doctors and the hair and makeup epople on films, they always seem to tut-tut, to tell you why what you want is impossible and to explain why you are a bad person. I find it harrowing.

But I also just want to get this done, and not be laughed at me being a girl drowning in a greatcoat. I want to stand there smiling at myself -- stupid and smug -- in the mirror while the do the little thing with the bulb and the chalk about where the hem should be. I tried it on again this morning -- it really is rad. It's also heavy as hell. I'm going to need to learn to walk in it like I don't feel that, like its weight makes me taller not smaller.

I need to decide on (get ready to laugh at me) the appropriate BPAL to mak e a sachet with and leave in the bag with the coat -- which remarkably doesn't smell nearly as agrieved as 50+-year-old wool should smell, but still needs to be addressed both for narrative and practical reasons. Alas, going through my BPALs, my response has largely been no and various character names from other fandom. So I may be on the hunt.

- Last night it rained ferociously, and I did a lot of writing and the world felt very strange. Today there is sun, and it seems odd that the night was.

- Off to do some work and then babysit my father. I don't like this situation at all.

My mother was a professional seamstress--I know that what you want is absolutely doable. LOL in fact when you described where it needs to be fixed, I actually saw you standing there with all the chalk marks and pins in the right places-- Take it to the person you trust, you'll love the results and look smashing.

C, whose mother never tut-tutted

Thank you. This makes me feel better. It is strange bringing the coat back to life -- no one has worn it in probably 20 - 25 years, from what the guy who sold it to me said, and it shows in some sort of weird stiffness to it. But I keep trying it on and futzing with it, and today it seemed better, like it had figured out how to hang on a body again. The tailor stuff is the big drama -- then there are a hundred little fussy things I need to do (like switching out the buttons) and I wonder if I'm just going to wear it as a winter coat. My father used to wear a coat like this, so it doesn't seem odd to me, but on the other hand, I'm not sure I could wear it as just my winter coat without being a smug, cackling asshole all the time.

Good luck with the alterations! I'm sure it'll look and feel awesome on you when it's done.

I totally understand about the BPAL thing, being someone who reacts fairly strongly to particular scents. I've been known to use scent to invoke a specific headspace--it's a useful tool for that. As amazing as BPAL is, there are plenty of other scent purveyors out there who probably have what you want or would be willing to custom blend one for you. Which makes me ponder what combination of scents I'd choose for such a purpose. Hmmm...

Non BPAL option: 51st Century Pheromones.

If sie did an Andy, I'd wear it liek whoa. Just because.

Well, it's certainly worth a try.... heheheeh very funny stuff.

I have one BPAL that is close for me, but it's a bit heavy and has other associations -- plus it's an LE, which is problematic as it is. This seems like it might be in the zone.

[identity profile] bodlon.livejournal.com 2008-10-26 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
LE? As in Limited Ed? Yeah. I could see that being an issue.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2008-10-26 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. I have two bottles of it, as I've loved it for years and is my main scent when I can remember to bother, and by this time bottles go for $40 if you get lucky and up to $100 if you don't. I keep meaning to take it to a place in Boston that will recreate scents for you, which won't be cheap either, but then I'll at least not be dealing with this eterntally limited supply.

The same non-BPAL person that does the Torchwood scents does custom work, looks like. Then again, that's the Internet v. someone you can visit and say "I want this thing," so...

[livejournal.com profile] mandolinorange does scents, too. She might have insight on the topic as well...

Good luck with your father. Peace and blessings to you.

I hate going to the tailor too. I will spend a lot of money on petite pants so I do not have to go through the ordeal of hemming. And I do not get dresses taken in, though I should. Ugh.

I don't know what your LE is... but I have a ton of LE imps that I don't sell, and all the Tarots (in imp form) as well as another 200 or so imps (some LE, some Twilight, some not, etc) and over 85 bottles of BPAL. And access to both my husband's and boyfriend's collections.

If there's something that you might want, let me know and I could probably hunt enough down for you to make your sachet with. This is not me trying to sell you anything - I just like helping people :)

Personally, I imagine Brom Bones, or my personal mix of Perversion and Smut :)
