"John Barrowman - aka Captain Jack Harkness - will star along with
David Tennant in the last two Specials, and remain with the Doctor for
the first two partner of Series 5. There is a chance - and it's just a
chance - that the Doctor's companions for these set of adventures
could be the FULL TORCHWOOD TEAM."

Can I just say, AGAIN, how weird I find TV fandoms. Book fandoms are so much more sedate. There isn't stuff like this and ratings watches going on every two seconds.

As to this rumour: okay, you can never have too much Jack, and I feel really strongly about him being there for the Doctor's regeneration because they are awesome ex-bf superheroes. So that's cool.

Now. Torchwood on Who? Sure! Possible drama between Ianto and the Doctor? Love it!

Do I think that'll happen? Not really. Am I eager to see Jack be a complete asshole to Ianto and the rest of the team AGAIN because of some Doctor drama? Also not really.

Oh writers, please be deft with this.

Any chance you'd consider cut-tagging stuff like this? I've defriended all DW comms to avoid being spoiled. I know it's just a rumor, but...

Sure, I'll try to be more careful in the future. I don't consider unsubstantiated casting information that doesn't involve any plot points (real or speculated) be be spoilers though.

I understand -- opinions vary widely on this topic. I appreciate your consideration.

Thanks! If the Jack bit were to happen, I would be so, so happy. And Torchwood team as canon companions (this could work with some of the rumors about next series of TW, too) would be like a fic writer's dream come true. Could probably live without the Doctor/Ianto drama though. :)

I am only down with Doctor/Ianto drama if it's funny or if it means people get over their shit (because wow, there's such a long list of bad behavior going there -- although it's mostly Jack and the Doctor as far as we can tell), as an ongoing angst thing? No thanks. Especially because I felt like Jack and the Doctor really got their drama resolved at the end of DW, season 3.

You took the words right out of my mouth, seriously. Catty!Ianto is always pretty hilarious. Jack and the Doctor just resound in a such special place with me. I really hope he's present for the regeneration.

It's funny, I'm pretty majorly into the Jack/Ianto thing, but with the perspective of that's right now -- I'm not sure anyone gets to have a love of their life, but I'm extra pretty sure someone like Jack doesn't get to. I think the closest he gets is someone like the Doctor, but that's less about their relationship and history than the ways in which they are both alone in the world and finally _get_ that. So yeah, I'm pretty wibbly about Jack/Doctor too, but in this way that's like impossible to explain.

Oh I so agree.

Again, exactly. I get down with Jack/Ianto because the physical and emotional connection they have is something Jack obviously needs, and the Doctor is so disconnected from him in that respect. But Jack and the Doctor have that constancy that's sad and beautiful, because boyfriends and companions can never stay long enough.

I might be a bit biased today, though. *returns to working on Jack/Doctor fanmix*

And there's also the whole regeneration thing. Like Jack and Ianto get to have a potentially successful relationship, because Ianto probably won't live long enough to do more than grow into himself -- he won't really change, so they can have a good thing without the course changing too radically (now that it's starting to make some sense). Whereas the Doctor -- that was going to end in tears no matter what, it just did it weirdly.

If this is true, I will be the happiest girl in the whole wide world!

The whole five episode thing seemed a little odd to me when TW is such a ratings-booster. The DW/TW team are a bunch of tricky bastards like that. Plus-- think of what we could get if the DW and TW production budgets were combined!

Hm. I'm not sure how I feel about all that. Jack being there, sure; that's as it should be (and it would be nice to have at least ONE companion be with all the Doctors in this series, depending how long it goes). But Torchwood is very much adult, and I think it would be a little weird to see Gwen and Ianto in the TARDIS, suddenly not as blatantly sexually active as they have been for the past two series, and I'm just not sure it would work. Then again, I have faith in Steven Moffat, but the tones of the shows overall are different; Torchwood is much darker. The three series merging in the finale was done really well, but those were cameos, really. Also, I don't want Ianto getting the same treatment as Mickey (because really, I liked Mickey--much more than Rose).

I'm all conflicted about this rumor. If they do make it.. on the one hand, omg, think of all the Ianto/Jack/Ten fanfic that's going to spring up. On the other hand, think of how terribly wrong they could go with drama and the angst.

And, I feel Who pulls down the sex/angst/drama that's in TW because it's more family friendly, so if it's Who/Torchwood and not Torchwood/Who, it'll be less dark and less sexy, and that will be disappointing.

Thanks for the rumor, though.. I'm going to go... mull.

It makes sense, show-wise.

John did say at Cheltenham that he didn't know if he was in any of the specials. Which seemed at the time to be code for "Russell's said I probably will be, but I can't say anything yet".

None of the New Who female companions can really be used, whether it's an actress thing or a character thing. Sarah Jane's done a regeneration. Jack should have been there for 9>10. So if RTD/PC/JG want an existing New Who character to be there for 10>11, Jack is pretty much the only choice.
