- Back twinges? Kidney/bladder/UTI -- AYUP. So that's just swimming.
- Horrible Sunday mood? Has thankfully passed.
- It was 64 degrees here today! That's not right.
- Placed our holiday See's order.
- Made our Lunacon reservations.
- Who is going to NY*CC? And what if anything is going to be interesting about that this year? I sort of totally did not get it last year, despite almost being stabbed to death by Milo Ventimigila holding a display thingy.
- The Marriott is already sold out for D*C? Seriously? SERIOUSLY. Okay, at least we won't be in elevator hell. We'll just be in the Not Cool hotel again. But this time I'll be a big boy about it and all will be well. Yes. Yes, it will. Hell, I don't even know if I'm a Guest again this year, although the application is in. (Okay, not sold out -- con rate sold out and I am not paying $329 a night to be in the cool hotel because I am still at least a vaguely rational being).
- Random email from my publisher. Not sure what's up or what deadline might possibly be coming down on my head soon. I had stopped watching my Amazon numbers for a really long time, but wow, they are just swimmingly nice right now. I need to get on them about a royalty statement like yesterday, although I'm probably just breaking even on my advance now.
- This installment of IHNIIHBT keeps getting -- I don't know, more complex, more something. Kali has this idea we're going to be in edits or perhaps even have it posted by Thursday. I think she's out of her mind. But she's usually the realist with the schedule, so hey, maybe! Our desire to have the arc finished by the end of the year seems unlikely now. We're shooting for Jan 15, as we have to be into our novel by then (the plan is to churn a first draft out in six weeks).
- Have I started my Yuletide fic with the assignment everyone I know is jealous of? Nope. I do at least know what I'm doing and how I'm doing it, but really should reread the source material first.
- Firefly! War Stories! Oh crap, that was just slashtastic and hilarious. Inara fucks a girl; Mal and Wash get tortured. That's what we get for symmetry? Oh my god. Meanwhile, anyone got any good Mal/Wash/Zoe fics for me? I'll take Mal/Simon if they are actually in character, but I've yet to see anything because the expected OOC bullshit happens and, of course, Simon only really has eyes for his sister, but that's a separate topic.
- Meanwhile, if Patty and I were going to go on a totally non working vacay anywhere in the world late 2009, where should we go?
- Heading home to do some web work now.

Date: 2008-12-16 01:58 am (UTC)What are you interested in doing? Cultural stuff? Nature stuff? Just getting away from it all? (I actually like the Mongolia recommendation. Ulan Battar is supposed to be a pretty happening place right now.)

Date: 2008-12-16 01:59 am (UTC)I think we're interested in relaxing and are toying with the idea of going somewhere we've both never been before. Some cultural stuff would be good, or I'll probably get stir crazy and somewhat modern is probably also good, as she goes to remote, isolated places with poor accommodations for a living and I like modern plumbing.

Date: 2008-12-16 02:17 am (UTC)If you are wanting to go somewhere just to relax, this is the place. In fact, I recommend anywhere on the Dalmatian coast. There's lots of cool cultural stuff to do (castles to explore, even!) and none of it breaks the bank since Croatia isn't on the Euro, yet.
Really, I'm just itching to get back there myself.

Date: 2008-12-16 06:42 am (UTC)Whether you want to ski, go on safari, cultural trips, learn to speak xhosa, surf, whatnot, you can do it there. I know for a fact that you can find plenty of places to eat in and around Cape Town that would cater to your dietary restrictions, or you can do what I last did there and stay in a self-catering apartment (of which there are many many many of high quality). Transportation is cheap, the scenery is gorgeous, and best of all, you can sit on a sunbaked beach with blue water, sugar-white sand, boulders the size of your house, and penguins.
The rand is extremely favourable to the dollar, and South African Airways flies semi-direct from JFK to Johannesburg every day (via Dakar in Senegal).
Late 2009 is early summer, as well.

Date: 2008-12-16 11:53 pm (UTC)The other thing that came to mind was "that time on skiing holiday" when my brother's kidneys shut down for 24 hours - he gave himself alcohol poisoning after a drinking contest with a mate in Austria. You may or may not know that Austrian beer is LETHAL! He drank gallons of water and slept a lot for 24 hours and was back on his skis the next day!
