This makes me weep... I have never, ever understood the visceral hatred that drives some people to pursue the business of others. It conjures up the worst excesses of the Middle Ages. German tribes hanging homosexual men from trees, on the same limb of the tree reserved for cowards. The relentless pursuit of any sort of difference. I see this garbage, I hate it, and so I have to think of something to keep me going: I teach high school, and at last year's talent show, a young man (who happens to be gay) stepped onto the stage in front of the entire school to demonstrate his prowess in ballet. I was sitting amidst some of the school's rougher diamonds, ready to intervene if things got foolish. Far from it.
Tough guy #1: He's doing fucking ballet? Tough guy #2: Fucking ballet, man. Tough guy #1: That takes fucking balls, man. (reflective pause) Tough guy #2: Dude is fucking good!
Stuff like that keeps me going in this episodically stupid world.
A timely antithesis to some rampant idiocy going around in certain quarters. My eye was particularly caught by the wonderful old codgers standing by the bust of Harvey Milk, but other than the "oh, two people of the same sex" the photos in question are so *ordinary*. I hope that one goes viral.
