I sorta kinda think that this is where he was headed with the whole thing. That he would get people on the right all right with him, used to defending his choice of whoever he wanted and reaching across the aisle, only to make further decisions such as these, and we can hope, back legislation that will do a lot of good.
Most certainly, but one key point to keep in mind. I don't know if progressives have won big yet, but what is absolutely certain is the reactionaries and bigots lost bigtime. Their vile comments mean a whole lot less know than they did a year or two ago.
I'd have to go with hope-ish. As a non-religious, culturally Jewishish person, I still feel excluded by the insistence on a Christian preacher, and am amazed that including a white, male, gay christian is seen as FTW! Because white, male, christian...still not like me or oh-so-many of my friends.
Don't take this as being anti-Gene Robinson, I am not. But this is a baby step that, while significant to some, is a shoulder shrugging 'eh' to many others who are still waiting for the messiah, er, the inclusive America that sees us as full citizens, too.
