What makes Livejournal so brilliant sometimes is juxtaposition. Currently, I can't stop laughing because my friends list goes from a very stylish picture of Baz Luhrmann to a cartoonishly grotesque picture of a real, actual exploded whale.

Obviously, I'm under a great deal of stress to find this so funny, but it really, really is.

I am glad I could amuse.

Glad you brought my attention to that. I've actually been looking for pictures of the whale, having seen the story all over LJ.

The juxtapositions on LJ occasionally bother me — when half my friends are talking about how their lives are coming apart by degrees, and the other half are posting the results of the "What flavor of lip gloss are you?" quiz, it becomes harder to relate to people's struggles. It all starts to get trivialized and equalized.

But still, the incongruity of this sort of thing is frequently hilarious.

Google up the video of the US Army Corp of Engineers blowing up a whale on the east coast. It's hilariously wrong.

Oh, I've seen that... it was a Dave Barry obsession for a very long time.

We were watching it at work the other night. So very wrong.
