Re: the cosplay, 'cause I'm curious, are there men who cosplay female characters, too? And are there tutorials for them on how to do it? I'm only hearing the female->male direction. Or are there generally more women in fannish cosplay (or possibly fandom that loves cosplay) to start with?

We had quite a long discussion about that at dw_cosplay. If there are male "crossplayers" they're few and far between, it seems. I suspect you're right, that there are more women in that particular aspect of fandom anyhow, but I could be wrong.

Male -> female cosplay is much more prevalent in anime fandoms in general and in cosplay occurring at fan events in Eastern countries. I almost never see it in live-action fandoms.
