Today it worked.

Sort of.

I heard a lot of background noise and her saying hello twice. But she couldn't hear me, I don't think.

I'm sorry. That's awful. I know how miserable I am when V and I are apart; I can't imagine not being able to at least speak to each other on the phone.

I was so bad at those kinds of calls. We used a satellite phone and there was always a huge lag between talking and hearing what was said.

And then I'd laugh, because I'm an idiot.

And then he'd have to repeat what he said.

It was better than nothing, but oh sometimes not by much!

Shame she doesn't have regular 'net access. A friend was just in Egypt and I was amazed that she was checking Facebook and email on a regular basis.
