Wait until you get to Blond!John. It's only one scene, but quite fun.

The movie that made my mother into a Matthew Broderick/Nathan Lane shipper, you mean? Ahem.

That's what just broke my brain. I always knew my uniform fetish would see me in hell. And that was the proof.

The first time I saw it I had a similar reaction. You know it's coming, but then it's THERE. and he looks HOT as a nazi.

Do you think it is as horrible as I thought it was?

I can't remember if I ever shared this with you, but now seems like the right time if I haven't.

I'm not sure if that's a good or bad reaction you're having.

I didn't think it was all that horrible, despite the reviews.

I would have loved it more in the theater.

The director directed the stage play and her film skills don't seem to be there. It felt like a stage play and so both Broderick and Lane are giving these very broad performances as if they are playing to the cheap seats.

Required me to skew my thinking a little...when I tuned my brain to the stage it was more enjoyable.

I was fine with the broad performances. What I liked most about it was the tribute to the era of Broadway it was spoofing, and that requires broad performances. I thought the people who weren't stage actors weren't up to it though (Uma) and that the pacing was shit.

Yeah. A fact I am all too aware of (and was tangentally the subject of a horrible wank in HP fandom because of really offensive nazi!fic someone wrote and the uniforms kept being used as the justification for the crazy horror of the story).

Nah. I thought the pacing was crap though.

Heeheheheh. I sort of have a thing for extreme tonal qualities, so I was sort of way more into the hair than I wanted to be.

I get you on the era, but I found it OVERLY so. Broderick especially was mugging waaaaaaaaaay too much.

A scootch back would have been perfect.

And the pacing was weird. There were places where it was waaaaaaaay to fast and other places where it was waaaaay to slow.

I've heard it works much better on stage.

i generally prefer dark hair
so when i see ppl who normally have dark hair have gone blonde, i cringe a bit
and i always think blondes should go darker

That's the movie I put on in the background while I'm cooking/housecleaning/doing taxes/other repetitive tasks which don't take all my brain. Which, of course, means I can quote it back to front. In some ways Barrowman will always be "Nazi Soloist #1" to me.
