Watching The Producers (the recent one) for the first time.

Oh. My. God.

I would have loved it more in the theater.

The director directed the stage play and her film skills don't seem to be there. It felt like a stage play and so both Broderick and Lane are giving these very broad performances as if they are playing to the cheap seats.

Required me to skew my thinking a little...when I tuned my brain to the stage it was more enjoyable.

I was fine with the broad performances. What I liked most about it was the tribute to the era of Broadway it was spoofing, and that requires broad performances. I thought the people who weren't stage actors weren't up to it though (Uma) and that the pacing was shit.

I get you on the era, but I found it OVERLY so. Broderick especially was mugging waaaaaaaaaay too much.

A scootch back would have been perfect.

And the pacing was weird. There were places where it was waaaaaaaay to fast and other places where it was waaaaay to slow.

I've heard it works much better on stage.
