- I got a letter from Patty today. This was her second letter, mailed about 8 weeks ago. Lord knows what happened to the first one. But it was lovely and strange.

- I am the last person on earth to discover Abney Park. I have a sneaking suspicion I am too old to be totally into this nonsense, but there's 80s DNA in there, just more menacing. So, er, yeah. AWESOME.

- On that note, a note to self: Don't listen to some random song by the new band you've just discovered (okay, ages after everyone else has) on repeat while reading Torchwood tentacle porn fanfiction, lest that song become forever associated with, well, tentacles.

- Combining these elements into a single post, I feel the need to apologize to both Patty (who is laughing is she can see this) and Abney Park, who presumably wouldn't give a damn even if they did see this.

You can't post a comment like this without naming a) the song or b) the fic.

I have a rather unfortunate relationship with the third Brandenburg concerto, myself.

That's just a lovely story, isn't it? Freindly, sort of nerdy tentacle monster!

He's so nerdy! It's really amusing and sweet.

I've never, ever had any interest in, or even willingess to read, tentacle stuff before this fandom, but all the stories with that element that I've read so far have been AWESOME. I'm having a bit "who knew?!" moment over it.

Abney Park were getting known in the goth scene and then the steampunks found them and Warren Ellis mentioned them, so you may be one of the last. That said, I like them, even though I don't usually like those goth bands the boy finds, and even though I'm tired of boring steampunk.

The Dickens crowd, particularly the Legion, is all drooly over Abney Park. what I've listened to has been kind of noisy, but I should probably give them more of a chance. also, hi fey, fancy meeting you here.. :D

...I'm on the verge of taking it as a point of pride that I have never read any of Warren Ellis' work.

I almost started paying attention to Abney Park, because the Mutaytor are working with them now, but the virus still hasn't quite taken hold. ;-)

You know they were at D*C last year, right?

Hey,
I'd meant to write you several months ago for your help at Dragon*Con last year. Your knowledge and level of awesome just made the Alternative Sexualities panel all the more worth going to. It was nice to have someone who absolutely knew the topic who wasn't afraid to give out recs as well as sit back and encourage other people to talk. You were just wonderful.

Thanks so much. I'm excited to hear that you'll be coming back next year. You're absolutely welcome on any panel I'm running.

I keep thinking I should give them a try and then I get distracted by something else.

This is as good a time as any...

[livejournal.com profile] rm is right: The Wrong Side is very 80s-ish. Not bad, but I wish the vocals were more forward in the mix.

Thank you so much! I love doing this stuff, but crowds can be hard for me, and the Dragon*Con environment was very overwhelming. I view it as the preparation I needed to do it right this year, so it means a great deal to hear that I was enjoyable and useful.

Yes, yes and yes. And I kept walking by their CD table and going "hey, that's kinda rad."

_This year_.

I mean, assuming we're not just camped in the Marriott bar.

Are they playing this year? The D*C website sometimes works in mysterious ways, and I couldn't find the musical guest list this morning. Granted, I hadn't had my first cuppa yet...

Why do I suddenly need to own several good flasks?

Let me know if there's anything I can do to make the con easier for you. Crowds are on the easy side for me. My family's enormous and I'm so used to having a bazillion people in a tiny space that it feels comfortable and normal for me. One of our guests last year had issues with crowds as well so I would just escort her from one panel to the next because crowds tend to part for me. Maybe that's my super hero power. ;)

Again, thank you so much for your help.
