  • NY'ers: is someone you like and trust cleaning your apartment? Are they looking for one or two more clients? We're looking for someone for our place and a friend has just lost their person to the rest of their life being over-scheduled. Once a week for our friend's place, probably once every other for ours.

  • Has anyone else experienced their whole computer freezing and not even doing ctrl-alt-escape when gmail calls to the server for mail? It happened at work for a few hours yesterday and then once again already this morning. Not amused.

  • Hey, I really, really have to do my taxes tonight.

  • God, the Torchwood cast is like one giant curtains!fic lately. Good on them. (and, tangentally, thank you to [livejournal.com profile] cruentum for the scans that just arrived in my email.

  • I now have a Dreamwidth account (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] thaddeusfavour). I've not much set it up yet, but I'm [livejournal.com profile] rm over there too, much to my immense relief. In the short term, the journals will mirror/push to each other. In the long term, who knows. I view it as a disaster preparedness plan.

I've been looking for an invite code if you happen to get some and have one to spare.

Yay on the DW account! I'm only there via OpenID at the moment, but it doesn't surprise me that you were able to get rm.

I've done the occasional cleaning job, and I'd gladly offer my services. There's only one problem.

I'm deathly allergic to cats/cat hair. I seem to remember you saying you had one, but I can't be sure.

I do. The friends don't. So that's perhaps viable. Will email as it all becomes more clear.

I'm relieved. Some sites won't let you do two letter id's and I couldn't get it on Twitter.

Thanks. I'm going to open a paid account anyway at the end of April when I can do so, but I'd like to reserve my username as soon as I can. It would be entirely frustrating to have to be someone else on another site.

I think since DW is a code-fork from LJ, they pretty much had to let people choose the same kinds of usernames as could be found on LJ.

Twitter prevents it, eh? Tch. Considering that retweeting means you have to waste some of your precious 140 characters crediting the @twitterusername, surely 2-character usernames should be a Twitter boon?

Taxes - Phew! I just need to get the hubby to double check my typing, make copies, and send them off. Certified. Yay to those of us who leave things to the last minute and still get done!

Curtains!fic - Yay! A happy cast is a productive cast, I hope. And, I have a not so secret passion for well done curtains!fic.

Dreamwidth - Glad you're over there. Waiting to get more for the rest of my gang. Party!

*raises hand* It's been happening to me for the past 2 - 3 days. I turn it on and within seconds, it sucks up 50% of my processor and my PC gets dragged down with it. It's gotten to the point where I'm not using gmail except when I *have* to, which is v. annoying as it's my default web-mail program.

Yeah. It freezes my whole machine at work and I have to hard reboot. My home machine seems fine. Also, while I've run virus scans, I feel like there's something up, because now all sorts of random webpages are crashing my browsers, but it started with gmail.

On gmail, are you talking about that little resident program that lets you know you have gmail without being logged in on the browser?

Because I normally just keep a tab logged into gmail on my browser and have not had freezing, so I'm wondering if you mean a notifier or something else?

    Date: 2009-04-14 05:08 pm (UTC)
    From: [identity profile] rm.livejournal.com
Nope. Just the tab is causing the chaos.

I'm getting it on Linux as well, but had been blaming either Facebook or the Adobe plugin. Perhaps I should just shuffle all my mail off to my Blackberry.

I'm only noticing it during peak business hours.

Has anyone tried contacting Gmail on this?

I've noticed that gmail is taking a bit longer to load my mail through out the day, not just at peak times. It hasn't caused my computer to freeze...*knocks on wood*

I've noticed every time I go to gmail, everything bogs down and it takes forever to do anything (even panic!Exit the window). Is that what you mean? If so, THANK GOODNESS it's not just me! I've been scanning my comp with every virus and ad scanning software I have, trying to drum up the problem.

-- this is entirely offtopic but I figure if anyone would know, you would: where do you go to get garments tailored? I have a set of BDUs that I need to turn into a fitted woman's uniform, and tailoring from men's shirts to women's is beyond my capabilities.

Also, yay Dreamwidth -- can't wait til I win the invite code lottery and can go over myself.

They did my RAF coat. Cost me a fortune, but the whole thing had to be taken apart and recut and reconstructed. It was cheap for the work I needed. Your thing sounds waaaaay less complicated.

This just happened tonight. We weren't in gmail, but I am noticing an adobe plugin in the Start Up List.

Is there an unholy combo the adobe thing and something else that does it then?

Strike that. I did due IT diligence and asked Mr Nice User Man Who Insisted He Was Only Looking At LJ if he had been at Gmail, and the answer is yes. *head desk* I love the end user, I do, especially when I love with him. Repeat to self, love him, no really :D

Thanks for the specific information that let me nail him down on an answer.

Oh well, obsessively cleaning the Photoshop machines is never a bad idea, the temp files get nasty on it.

But we do have an adobe thing in the start menu too, which I've been eyeballing and wondering if he let Adobe install something to view some documents or something.

[livejournal.com profile] ziasudrafic told me about your post. My sister and I have a part time cleaning service and if you're still in the market for a house cleaner, let me know. We are in the city so travel is not a problem and we have cats so kitties are no problem. You can email me paranoidsistah@aol.com.
