  • Had a lovely evening last night which was pretty much summed up by that retweet from last night. Next time will get to Wit's End earlier and be more up for the socializing/dancing, but did have a nice chat with Don Spiro, and Jill and Marci were both hilarious all night. Later we ate at Mogador which featured this insane and really heavy conversation that ran all over from crazy adventures traveling to really serious talk about cancer.

In the midst of all of this, Marci game up with a key idea that may help me name the television project I want to pitch to Syfy (their horrible name-change and an off-hand remark from Jill is actually what prompted me to even think about doing this). The whole thing is plutonium waiting to happen, and this morning I had a lot of keen thoughts about why the idea she came up with is problematic, but it should lead me down a path that will work. Be warned that I'll probably be taping stuff for at least a little YouTube production both at WriterCon and Dragon*Con. Don't worry, I'll be asking nicely first.

I wonder if basic video editing will be as irksome to learn as basic (read: primitive) sound editing.

  • Meanwhile, Amazon is now recommending for me het romance novels about NASCAR. Spiteful much? (Also: NOT SHOPPING, promoting WriterCon).

  • Okay, must get work done before I fetch Patty at the airport. Have stuff to do for the Germans and five voice-over ads to write today.

    ...het romance novels about NASCAR...

You know, I'd heard somewhere that NASCAR had struck a licensing deal with one of the romance publishers — Harlequin? — but I’d convinced myself that it was a hallucination caused by dodgy seafood.

Great. Thank you! It'll be a few months away, unless I shoot some footage now, just to learn how to do this not in a crunch.

what sort of software are you using? i haven't been near anything new or state of the art in a few years so i won't know my way around some programs, but i've got the basics down

Not a bloody clue. I mean, I'm seriously at the starting from zero, googling what to do point.

    ah, gotcha
well, if it's something you think you might like to get into doing with a more professional quality, then i'd recommend buying some good software
i'll have a look around and see what's out and user-friendly
avid and final cut pro are the ones i learned on and know best (and are ridiculously expensive) but there are some cheaper, more user-friendly programs out there
i hear 'vegas studios' is good, but i've never used it myself

On the plus side, what I'm trying to do is relatively simple (yay for resisting my urge to be a vidder), although I have the good sense to storyboard first, once I have the footage, so I'll have a better sense then.

The only thing I want to read about NASCAR is PWP featuring an air filter, exhaust pipe, and spark plug having a threesome. Just sayin'
