My suit is being shipped out today. The Duchess folks will be back in town at the end of the month, at which point they will have their alterations person on hand, should it need any tweaks and I'll be able to look at getting some shirts made and talk more about the tux or the next suit or whatever.

*rolls around in happiness*

Sadly, however, I've been remiss about getting shirts done, and I think the odds of me finding any men's shirts that will fit my neck and have French cuffs are completely south of zero. So things aren't going to be quite right at first.

Anyway, if I am very lucky, the suit will be here Friday. But Monday, realistically.

Also nice? The balance I owed on it was less than I recalled. Yay.

Clearly, I need to get my hair cut this week.

Also, unrelatedly, does DWNY know how to hook up geektastic social opportunities or what? Which is to say, if you thought that foot in mouth interaction with Paul Cornell re: Steven Moffat was hilarious who knows what terrible things we'll say to Gareth Roberts. I'm sorry, man. In advance. I'm just sorry.

I'm not sure exactly what your shirt size is, but you might look at larger boy's dress shirts if you need smallish chest and neck sizes with adult length sleeves.

Which I do, and which I own. French cuffs = where it becomes impossible.

[livejournal.com profile] vesper2000 is an *excellent* shirtmaker (she's constantly leaving me behind when we geek-out on the subject) and she might be willing to take on a commission...

PS - I *love* French cuffs, myself. I put 'em on the Lucy!Master shirt for no design reason whatsover, just because I like them so and don't have enough shirts with them...

There will be photographic documentation of the awesomeness at some point, yes?

What's your neck/sleeve?

Hmmm....I've just had a thought about cuffs that I need to research now. Do you happen to know: were cuffs historically always turned-back double length cuffs like modern French cuffs, or was there a time when it was a single cuff with buttonholes on both sides to accomodate links? Because in theory you could replace a button with a buttonhole on an otherwise-fitting shirt if the extra cuff fabric isn't important to the look you're going for.

I think this is worthy of some looking into, if only for historical accuracy, because I'm suddenly a little dubious that cuffs always looked like modern French cuffs when they had links.

Also, I'm almost certain I owned one French cuffed shirt when I was still in boy's sizes. So there might be a scrap of hope that they exist. If you'd like, I can check with my parents.

Also, I add that I used to work for a seamstress who could take regular shirts and add French cuffs. It's not always schway, because there's fabric to procure, but it can be done. It's also nest to see that men with French cuffs, when the cuffs themselves get too dirty, often have them professionally turned. I like the idea that one can make the shirt last longer.

I'm only slightly thicker and slightly taller and shirts in general are difficult. I think the one Pierre Cardin shirt with french cuffs I own that is only slightly large came from a thrift store. Beacon's Closet might be your best bet since the hipsters sell their designer shit to pay off the coke dealer there.

Fantastic!! I can't wait to see it!

Regarding shirts/collar/cuff, you might want to contact this company and see if they have anything in your size: http://www.amazondrygoodscollarsandcuffs.com/index.html

It's a different look but totally period.

I'm pretty sure I'm coming to the DWNY event next Wednesday.

I heard! Good for her. If we don't get a fourth season, watch fandom blame her.
