  • Patty heads home to Ohio for two weeks on Friday. This is boo as she will miss Dances of Vice, but yay in that she'll be back for all this AWESOME stuff in early June.

  • [livejournal.com profile] kessie arrives today.

  • Woken up by stupid drama with the ConEd guy coming to read our meter.

  • OMG, ties!

  • DWNY thing tonight.

  • I'm spending the day trying to resolve other people's fuck-ups, and it's already annoying.

  • Dear Star Trek reboot fandom: I think we have to argue that in light of the changes on earth in the last five to ten years to twenty years, that homosexuality is not an issue at the point the film takes place, at least amongst earth humans. Okay? PLEASE? K THNX BYE.

  • Dear Torchwood fandom: CALM THE FUCK DOWN. Is all the doom speculating making you happier? Do you feel more prepared? Chill out. Man. Harry Potter was never like this.

  • Meanwhile, after a long conversation about nothing, my mother mentions to me that my grandfather, who is like 91 or 92 is now in hospice care, on morphine and still writing her letters that open with long rambles about the eyes watching Naugatuck (where mom grew up). He also doesn't recognize his son Don, and refers to Don when he comes to visit as the younger Don and wonders why the older one never visits. Don is gay, and there's a subtext to his interpretation of the situation that this is about having never been who his father wanted him to be or something. Dude, 92, morphine! Anyway, this hasn't become an epic drama, yet. It will.

  • Bwahahah: http://pete-wisdom.livejournal.com/327519.html

  • Remember my ranting about the Interstitial Arts Foundation? Well, they are having a salon in NYC. While I am someone who is deeply phobic about networking events, this sounds cool, because it's not really networking, it's more "here's the weird way I obsess over stuff, how do you obsess over stuff? hey, let's make stuff!" http://www.interstitialarts.org/wordpress/?p=92

  • Do I want to go to the Hewitt Reunion? It's not my year, but it's an all year thing, just with an emphasis on certain classes. And I didn't even graduate from there, but since I went there for ten years and only to my other school for 2.5, I have more connection with it. Yeah, and also, a lot of it's just morbid curiosity.

We should be annoying and Twitter at Tony from it.

Don't even know who Tony is, but we are the chorus, and we agree, we agree, we agree!
    Twitter is fun!

    Tiiiiies!

    See you tonight!

And, yeah. While it means there's one less potential source of conflict for people to angst over, I feel sure that the LGBT sitch will have been sorted out in *that* 'verse. Even the Vulcans can probably roll with it as an orientation, just as long as those pesky emotions don't get in the way of logic. And LOL on the lighting effects.

    Date: 2009-05-11 02:44 pm (UTC)
    From: [identity profile] rm.livejournal.com
Well, I think the only issue on that front for the Vulcans is continuing the species.

    Also true.

Oo cool on the interstitial arts thing - sounds like the literary/artistic version of a hackerspace (in the "o hai we r weird letz maek stuf" sense).

Wait, what? I heard about a zillion wanks about the Star Trek movie, but none connected with GLBT issues. Did I miss a subtext?

There's just started to be shitty fanfiction in which Spock and Kirk angst because people won't accept their homosexuality. No, it's the shitty emo writing that's the problem there.

    DWNY thing tonight.

I know you mean Doctor Who when you write this... but the company I work for is named Dirtworks, and we call it DW for short.... And I always get confused when I see this in your posts. I have a moment of, "Wait, why is [livejournal.com profile] rm coming to my job?"

long rambles about the eyes watching Naugatuck

If that isn't a Lovecraftian prelude, I don't know what could be.

Lovecraft is only fun because the crazy isn't real. When an elderly relative is incoherent, it's just scary. :-(

omg, it is so bizarre to find someone mentioning Naugatuck in an lj post -- I grew up there and am, in fact, back living there with my mom at the moment

I'm sorry to hear about the situation with your grandfather -- that has to be difficult for everyone

I've never been, my my grandfather owned the town grocery there in my mother's childhood (so in the 40s and 50s -- not sure when he founded it or closed it) and lived in a house on a hill that was safe when there was a big flood. That's all I really know, other than the person who makes "Naugas" out of naugahide and sells them at SF cons.

Thanks for your thoughts. It's all a bit weird.

I wish I were doing better at calming the fuck down about Season 3. However, that's good in a way; I must not be worrying about real life stuff much.
