I saw him on the Rachel Maddow show and he broke my heart. He's also right; asking our soldiers to lie doesn't build stronger units and goes against everything taught at places like West Point.

I probably shouldn't, but I feel sorry for Weakland, probably because he's a Benedictine and I think better of Benedictines. His story shows how impossible the hierarchy makes it for any one individual to act with integrity. And no, breaking your vow of celibacy with a consenting adult should not be confused with taking sexual advantage of minors under your care, which it was, in his case. I guess retiring and getting out was the best choice he could make.
