sundries, retrograde

  • I ordered new checks at Citibank two weeks ago. They should have arrived by now. I went into Citibank -- they forgot to order them. Now I get them for free. Oi.

  • I am trying to order this dress for the cruise. The sale is ridiculous and I have the same model dress in a print at a shorter length so I know it will fit. It's such a starlet dress, I love it. *Glares at fucking paypal*

  • Patty bought a fabulous dress today too.

  • More details have emerged about the break-in at our office suite. Photos of the perp have been passed around and the whole case strikes me as rather bizarre. On one hand, he wore a suit and had small luggage to carry stuff out, looking all corporate. On the other hand, he ignored the eight billion conspicuous cctv cams here and, get this, scaled the wall (the offices in the suite don't have walls that go all the way up for wiring and AC purposes, but they are still like 9' high) to get stuff. Surely there are easier ways to steal a laptop?

  • Hey, LeakyCon is this weekend, and I won't be there. Have fun, kids. Part of me is melancholy to miss it, but part of me is glad for the HP break this year.

  • I think I want to try to do the Minneapolis plane ticket thingy this weekend. Waiting to hear from Kali as we might travel together.

  • I'm itching to write. Should do that Madonna essay in the next couple of days, but should also see what on my fanfiction stack I want to get done next. The last one felt good.

  • Also, MY NAME IS NOT RACHEL. This bothers me more than I can possibly describe. My name does not have the hard ch-sound in it, and it is NOT A DIMINUTIVE. It is also not an affectation. It's the legal name my parents gave me. Don't bloody drop the last syllable. If you want a nickname for me, ask. It won't be Rachel.

    More casual, but really perfect.

CCTV does not reduce crime, except in car parks, and then mostly if there's added lighting and actual security guards.

OMG~ I almost bought that for my wedding dress! It was my backup if I couldn't find anything else.

    Awesome...

Love the dress! I just wish Trashy Diva had stuff that was a) my size and b) my price range. Bought a pair of boots from them a couple of years ago and ended up giving them away cause they wouldn't zip over my calves.

    [identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-05-20 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I find their stuff to be very strangely sized, in that the waists are very small and the busts are very large. That dress, I know, could easily hold a DD-cup, which is so not me or I think most women with my waist-size. It's serious undergarment rocket science.

All those weird facts make me think that thief wanted something very specific. Maybe someone in your company is secretly a spy and it is international espionage. Hah.

    [identity profile] stardragonca.livejournal.com 2009-05-20 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Then the International Espionage chappies hired really inept field operations help. Seriously.

That is a magnificent dress. I love wide, fitting waists.

It's such a starlet dress, I love it.

Starlet's the word! It looks like it belongs on one of those Thirties beauties from the Hollywood fan magazines...

the name thing - ever since the LotR movies came out, i've been barraged with "oh, you added 'en' to the end of Lori; that's so Middle Earth of you..."

and no. no, i did not. it's always been like that. grumblecakes.

Dresses: y'all are going to look just sensational.

    Oi: vay!

Perp:most criminals think they are too clever to get caught, and most aren't. Criminals do not have good problem solving skills.
Erroneous name presumption: U.S. habit that is the most made of fail. Grr.

    Writing: Looking forward to.

Dresses:y'all are going to be fabulous!

I get the name thing. My name is Tina. Not Christina or Christine. Just Tina. See birth certificate.

I have had several teachers make fusses about it, and my sixth grade teacher absolutely refused to call me Tina because it was inappropriate to use nicknames in an educational setting. I finally had to bring in my birth certificate, and even then, she refused, saying she couldn't help it my parents chose to give me a nickname. Turned into a meeting with the principal on that one.

Strangely, I get Lisa a lot, too. No idea why. Four letters, same vowels in the same spot...I've had it so much over the years, I practically answer to both. But NOT to Christina :)

Fight for the right to use your proper name...

What was the outcome of the meeting with the principal?

because it was inappropriate to use nicknames in an educational setting

Seriously? My own (RL) name as commonly used is a contraction of the full one, and I never got any flak over it, not from the teachers. (Mind you, I was in a class with an Asian girl who gave the teachers initial difficulties in pronouncing the first name... all sorted out v. quickly tho'.)

I know. Isn't that AMAZING? So neither of our sizes. (I do have a 25" waist, but it is not where the Trashy Diva waists are; I was only able to order the gown because it's a 26").

That is, in fact, a truly fabulous dress.

*tries to quell the waves of jealousy*

People who make assumptions about your name should burn, burn, burn. I have a name that I have spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to get people to spell/pronounce right (Carolyn, pronounced exactly how it's spelt) and it's a "normal" name. I can only imagine what you have to contend with having a "weird" name.

To be filed in the "people are stupid" folder, I suppose.

    [identity profile] drunkandinlove.livejournal.com 2009-05-20 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I have the opposite problem (I'm Caroline)..or maybe it's the same problem (trying to get people to pronounce it right - and as you said, it's pronounced exactly as it's spelled!)

Wonderful dress! I am putting off such purchases a bit until I lose the rest of the writing-a-cookbook weight gain but *swoon* at the pretties.

My first name is Beth. Not Elizabeth. Not Bethany. And most definitely not *shudder* Liz. You'd think this short form was a foreign concept, which is doubly odd since few Elizabeths use the long form. Makes me want to hurt people some days. While berating them using the wrong name, of course.

OT: Eyes Wide Shut is on and I am TIVO-ing it so I can look for you. I told someoneElse why, but not which scene, and he just looked at me funny. Oh well.

    [identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-05-20 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not in Eyes Wide Shut! My naked movie is Fur.

I'll send you a post card from Leaky. Hopefully it won't be sent from the road I'm on running away from it.
