  • Heartened by the fact that we now have a teeny tiny (the size of a pea!) tomato on our green zebra, I bought two more tomato plants today, that are specifically well suited to container gardening. I also bought a pepper plant and a replacement for the bird-ate basil. I will also use the pot from the bird-ate basil to start the strawberries!

  • Other things from the farmers market: maple sugar candy and havaarti.

  • I have had two great story ideas, totally unrelated (one fanfic, one original fic) based off of the WWI photos I posted last night.

  • And now, WORK!

Hmm...I'm not sure if it will keep birds away, but can you get some Shake Away to put around the plants to keep them from being eaten? I did this with my garden last year, and it worked beautifully. By the way, Shake Away is pretty much a cat litter that smells like bobcat and coyote. The critters stay far away.

    Maple sugar candy!

When I was about eight, I tried putting a lot of pancake syrup on a piece of foil and sticking it in the freezer to make maple sugar candy. (Of course this did not work, because it wasn't actual maple syrup and was more made of corn syrup, feh.) I was extremely annoyed when I figured out why it wasn't working. I didn't end up having maple sugar candy until I visited New York.

I like to eat mine with tea or coffee, so the super sweetness is balanced by the bitter beverage.
