I am in Uniqlo trying to buy dress shirts. I even made myself brave the men's department on the odd chance a XS would fit. It didn't and they have ALL the colours I want. Thank god for their women's "boyfriend cut" - but more shades of blue! Grah! grah grah grah.

Also stopped myself from buying a fab yukata because it was the definition of uneneccsary. Almost smacked girls who called it a Haloween costume.

Gah. I don't mind blue, but if it's nothing but, that gets old pretty quickly.

Feh on the "Halloween costume" comment. Just because you can get a sweatshop-made version from Ricky's does not make it a halloween costume.

It just so happens that I am making a yakuta, and geta, for a friend right now. It's her first SCA event coming up and so we've been researching and shopping and things are going very well.

Would you like one?

I can find fabric real cheap these days ($2/m) and can sew it up as a men's or a women's.

Just let me know.

...what's the difference between a yukata and a kimono? /ignorant

A yukata is a casual garment. So casual, in fact, it can be worn as sleepwear/house coat sort of thing, but also, okay like shorts and a t-shirt. A kimono is a formal garment. At least a suit or sort of like evening dress.

Ahhhhhh. Okay, thanks!

I think they're beautiful, either way -- Holly had a housecoat cut in that style once, but the sleeves were so ungainly. I couldn't *do* anything while wearing it. That's probably more of a 'learn how to work while wearing one' as opposed to an actual problem with it, as a garment.
