Seriously?

Prop 8 decision and Obama announces Supreme Court nominee (word is it's Sonia Sotomayer) on the same day?

And then there's this: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/26/opinion/26douthat.html (the argument of which seems to be "we need more sexual stigma!" while continuing to advance the idea that women leading over men in anything is Really Scary).

I just heard on NPR that the GOP are threatening to filibuster her nomination because Obama expressed a desire to appoint an empathetic judge. I really can't express how ridiculous I find that.

Yes - empathy. What a terrible thing!

*sigh*

I guess they don't realize that empathy moves towards all people - even them. :/

More absurd: when the Dems floated her as a possibility under Bush, they cried foul because she's "moderate or neutral, not conservative."

[insert incoherent noises here.]

Hasn't it been obvious for the past six months that the GOP will filibuster whoever Obama nominates to the Court?

Yeah, but is that honestly the best excuse they could come up with?

There's probably a certain amount of dog-whistling in their wording of their objection, alas. They can't say, "because she's an uppity Puerto Rican woman", but that's the way certain right-wingers will see her.

In less depressing news, I love the icon.
