Brief drinkies at the Algonquin tonight with an old fencing colleague to update me on that status of all of that.

Two trashy songs I'm seriously into right now: Need You Tonight (INXS) and Sabrina (Inkubus Sukkubus). Also, Song for Berlin which is by a band called Cabaret, which makes it impossible to find anywhere to buy, because stuff from the musical Cabaret just comes up instead. And yes, all of these are on my too-embarrassing-to-share Ianto Jones fanmix. No, I have no idea why. It's like the most irrational collection of songs ever.

Logistically forcing me to remove any temptation I have to try to get on the Gay in the Whoniverse panel at Dragon*Con (which I thought was seriously made of boring last year) is the fact that I can announce one thing for my D*C schedule now, which is that I will be modeling at the Time Travelers Ball fashion show in Date of show on Friday 4 September in Hanover C/D/E at 10pm in the Hyatt. More as I know it.

People who have emailed re: Boston, we're trying to sort logistics over the next couple of days, but are currently hampered by my low brain (see: Cipro) and the Torchwood frenzy. Contact, sanity and plans soon.

When is the director's cut of Watchmen happening? Is that this weekend? I need to get on that.

And soon, Half-Blood Prince (OMG, book sales) and I still have to see Public Enemies.

I am thinking of doing new business cards for my late-summer con season. Ideas include a no-image, old fashioned calling card type thing; a two-sided thing with a glam feminine picture on one side, and a photo of me as a man on the other; or a calling card type thing that has a sepia toned photo of me in some random vintage attire on one side. Thoughts?

It makes me a little queasy, but I actually tolerate it pretty well. For me, it gets worse the longer I'm on it, but that's because it really fucks with my brain function. Like, I'm not hallucinating yet, but I always wonder if I'm about to start.

How do I put this -- there is a convoluted splintery thing going on right now, and other than personal practice, I'm trying to sort out whether I'm going to switch to sport fencing (the problems of which speak for themselves), continue with what I was doing despite a lot of Leaders Behaving Badly stuff I (and many others) are fed the fuck up with or find a third options, which sort of depends on who with more experience is sick of what and what we're all going to do about it -- hence meeting friend for drinks tonight for the latest update.

Would you consider having different types of cards depending on the type of impression you want to leave? You may want a different card for acting/dancing type situations than you would for con speaking or writing.

Would you put your LJ username? Published works? Just your email address?

If your going for a basic name and contact info card I'd totally go old school calling card with just the information in classy font on good card stock either with or without the sepia toned photo on the reverse.

You might want something entirely different if you want to start promoting your pilot idea.

I did, I went to Sicily last summer. One of the issues is am I willing to deal with the current issues to go on next year's trip to Spain.

The problem, succinctly, with the current situation is that everything fencing has taught me about my personal honor and power makes it increasingly impossible for me to feel good about putting up with their shit. Which just sounds snitty, I know, but the whole thing is a pretty massive mess at this point, that I have to find a cogent way to articulate soon, since I've been asked to write about it for an anthology.

I think a lot of what happened to piano bar is I live much farther away from it now, and it was less key an activity for me than a lot of other people, and when fencing was taking up so much time, I was happy to put it aside, because that was silly and fencing was Serious Business. I do miss it sometimes, but with what feels like for me constant travel lately, when I'm home, I often just want to be home.

Re: Boston. SO is originally from, so we escape to the North Shore all of the time. If you are staying downtown, you can take a Boston harbor ferry to George's Island. It has a nice fort that you can explore, especially if you bring a flashlight or lantern. The far side of the island has a bluff above the fort where you can have a private picnic. It's one of my favorite locations ever.

We are hoping to be there at the end of the month.

It's really tough. I left one dojo over the exact same thing (though I'd have to say that instructor didn't even really teach about honor and such in the first place, a real class act there). I wound up going to a dojo much further away, but then as it happens, a satellite dojo from the new place operates here now. So it can work out in the long run, but you just never know what will happen...

One of the shittiest jobs I've ever had was in the mail room of the local newspaper, and the only coworker that I didn't want to feed into a wood-chipper used to dance around to that song whenever it came on the radio--your proverbial beam of light in the darkness.
