  • Unlike after Day 4, things do look better in the morning after Day 5, but possibly only because there's no new info to absorb, I can finally just sit with this.

Coming at you, hopefully tonight: an audio version of the story Kali and I posted last night amd a post Golden Age fic from me.

If you have reaction stuff re: Torchwood you particularly want me to see, you need to point me to it, as I'm feeling overwhelmed by everyone's emotions and no longer feel like I can click on every link, at least not for a few days.

Yes, I'll be at the DWNY thing on Sunday. I want to see other people react in real time. I want to put myself through at least some parts of it again and lord, I want to do it with a proper drink in my hand.

I've not gotten dressed yet, because I'm afraid I'm going to go into my closet, with all my dress shirts lined up in a neat little row and my coat and my suit all wedged in there (it's NYC, we have no closet space and everything gets wedged together) and burst into tears.

ALso people, wow, I've never seen anything like this whole crazy experience. Anyone know what the overnight numbers were for days 4 and 5?

  • Meanwhile, today I have things like work, and the farmer's market and tending to plants and going to see Public Enemies with Patty.

Arrgh, so on top op everything else this week, I've only seen part one. Josh is coming up tomorrow, and we're meeting with the rabbi at five, so I won't be at the DWNY thing.

    ...Maybe thats's for the better.

Um, yeah. It might be cathartic for you at a given point, but probably not this week.

Glad Josh is coming up. Really glad.

Hey you. I'm glad to hear Josh is coming up. You'll be missed at DWNY.

If you're feeling bored you can read my thoughts pre-CoE 'cause I haven't seen it yet.
    Soon I will though!

As far as I know, viewing figures for Day 4 were up from 5.9 million to 6.2 million. Day 5 got 5.8 million. These aren't the official figures which count people who recorded it on Sky etc.--those will be released in a few weeks, so the final figure will be higher. For a UK Sci-Fi show this is incredible, since the figures didn't steadily decline as the week went on. (For contrast, Season 2 averaged between 2.5 and 4.2 million.)

I found myself wibbling as I was pouring my morning cup of coffee, even though I have yet to see any of the episodes. This could be a problem.

Is there someplace I can RSVP for the DWNY gathering on Sunday?

No need to RSVP -- it starts at 3pm tomorrow at Professor Thoms in the East Village -- DWNY.org has info on it somewhere.

The live reactions at DWNY should be interesting, to say the least.

I hope peopel are more gutted than angry, because the angry next to my own grief is proving very hard to take.

I think anyone who sits through five hours straight will be shell-shocked, to be honest.

Yeah, you need to have your grief respected.
    It's a real thing.

When you have a moment, I have a first-run reaction post. I intend to write more later; this is just an attempt to deal with what's raw and what I expect to work through in the coming weeks. And I have a lot more to say about our fictional surrogates and the grief we justly feel on their account. In the meantime, reading all your posts, and grieving for you and with you.

Thank you. Really. (oh god, crying, AGAIN). This has been a very weird complicated experience.

I did read your post just now, and I sort of can't react yet, because it's taking so much for me to be zen with what the show brought us. I do, as you know, seem to have different feelings about the queer issue than a lot of other people of all sexual orientations. RTD tries to write gay people as an ordinary part of his universe and as such, when they die, they still die in the lens of our current culture -- and that implies things -- as opposed to the lens he would wish (just another person). I do agree with some of the unthinking racefail, but I know that I have a very different feling listening to Golden Age now in light of S3, because I do feel like it's meant to be a comment on race and class and relies on the audience to be smart (perhaps smarter than it is collectively at this viewership scale).

I really, really hope you'll wind up sticking around, at least for the very real, still going strong cranky island of misfit toys Torchwood that many people are still writing instead of or in addition to material based out of S3.

Oh, I should clarify in my post: not planning on leaving fandom, yet. For one thing, I have a long Jackstory in progress that is even more urgent to me now, and that benefits from the new canon.

But I do not think I can ever have the same investment in the canon story again, and frankly I don't want to watch the show without Ianto. I am, however, very interested to see what happens to Jack in DW, although mortally afraid of more immortal manpain.

day 4 was something like 6.3 million or something
i *think* it went down a bit for day 5, but i don't know for sure

It did -- which is standard -- fandom will say it's because of what happened in Day 4, but mostly it's that it was a friday night and people will catch it later online.

yeah, i don't think you can really hold much stock in the viewing figures these days (and i really wish american tv networks would GET that)
