I don't think any of this is going to get moved around or that I'm going to add/drop anything, although there's a possibility of changes, because a) it's a con and b) because of one particularly strange ball I have in the air still on this.

Women Warriors in YA

RFR: Rapid Fire Readings
Want a variety pack of SF/F voices? The broads at Broad Universe bring you a buffet of snack readings!
Time: Sun 07:00 pm Location: Fairlie - Hyatt (Length: 2.5 Hours)
(I won't be there for all of it in all probability... I'll give you a better sense of when I'm on when I've got a plan for this and see the rest of the schedule -- probably reading part of my gay airship pirate/minor prince story that, you know, maybe I'll finally finish)

Also, people, look at my Sunday schedule! I want a drink waiting for me when I'm done! Alert DrinkBot2000, or the pirates, or something!

Also, if I do the thing (*cough*, cosplay, *cough*) I'm not supposed to do, that will be happening on Friday or Saturday. Waiting to hear about other things/meetings in part, but a lot of it will just depend on the state of my brain.

I really wish I could be in the right country some time to attend one of your panels. Do they ever get vidded/recorded and put up anywhere? I'd love to listen in sometime.

I'm trying to get clearance to record some of this stuff as I need the footage for stuff. So maybe!

So basically, "all the good panels."

Those are the ones I'd really like to see. If there are recordings at some point, please do link us!

Awesome! The topics in and of themselves are the sort that sound interesting to me. Hope you can indeed get this stuff recorded.

Ooooh, yay!

All those panels look really great. I'm especially interested in the Snape and gender discussion as it combines two of my favourite thins! Snape... and gender.

That sounded better in my head.

How are you on so many YA panels? You don't even like YA!

Well, yeah, and hey, you can talk about anything. It just seemed weird.

Totally. And yeah, that is a weird skill. I realize how weird and how massive it is more every day.

I'm not at all certain I'll be able to wrangle even a Sunday pass given how late I'll be arriving, but I'd love to hear the Snape paper if I can manage it.

I've decided to take then zen approach about all the awesome panels I'll be missing. Hanging out with my fellow nerds will have to suffice.

"Alternative Sexualities in YA: Not Your Mother's YA Book!"

Unless of course, you're MY teen, in which case your mother probably handed you the book and said, "here, read this, it's got really good queer/women/goth/zombie/werewolf characters in it."

Alternative Sexualities in YA: Not Your Mother's YA Book!

Do you have any recs for this? Or any recs of rec lists? When I was a teen poking at my own sexuality, I took out every book at my library that I could find that touched on alt sexualities, but never went beyond that library. I'm especially curious if there are less... artsy LGBTQ YA books? I love artsy, but I've been wishing for gay media of all kinds these days that doesn't equate gay with weird, and can't remember reading any YA books with gay characters who weren't really out-there strange.

I wrote down a bunch of titles when I went to this panel at D*C last year, but I can't find the list now. Feh. However, you could check out I'm Here, I'm Queer, What the Hell Do I Read?, which is a very good LGBT YA book blog, to find some promising titles. There are so many more queer teen/YA books now than there used to be, and lots more in F&SF in particular.

I think it conflicts with my Snape paper. I told them to put me on whichever my schedule would accommodate.

Yeah, Dragon*Con scheduling is like a game of dominoes played by cats, so I well understand. (If you finish teh airship pirate story I have a place for you next year! :)

Why mustn't you cosplay?

From: [identity profile] rm.livejournal.com
I'm a guest and it's frowned on in professional circles, although some sub-circles are chiller with it than others. That said, I am a fan as well as a pro and have the current joy of low- to no- facial recognition. So I might bust out the Jack cosplay for an afternoon. It would feel good and it would mean a bit to some friends.
