I thought going to the Apple store the night before the Leopard release was a good idea why? The crowds and eager anticipation weirded me out, so we're going to go back on Tuesday for me to actually deal with this.
I've had a long, hard week. Now it's pouring and I have a headache. But we're headed to the beach, where we will probably not wind up on the beach at all, and it should be restorative.
God help me, I'm looking forward to Dragon*Con.
From a review of Big Fan: "That love can be a beautiful, touching thing: I still remember John Belushi kindly taking the time to sign an autograph that I soon threw away. I just wanted the contact with someone I adored (and being a teenager, I had no idea of its possible market value). There’s a kind of grace in that kind of exchange, as the idol recognizes the supplicant..." Check it out: http://movies.nytimes.com/2009/08/28/movies/28fan.html it also notes at one point that for the main character, "Being a big fan also makes [him] into something of a celebrity." Interesting stuff, and I hope we're all seeing it and talking about it.
Aside from the content being relevant to our interests, I really want to see Big Fan because I'm dying to see Patton Oswald in a serious role. He's so awesome.
Patton Oswalt was pretty awesome in Sex and Death 101. It got really awful reviews, but it's one of my favorite films of 2008. Winona Ryder stole it from him, though.
Hmm. I didn't go to any of the Boston-area stores yesterday (nor will I today; I cheated and ordered 10.6 online, and it may well already be in the mailroom here), but I wonder if the 24-hour operation of the 5th Ave store had an effect...I don't think any of the stores here did the "open at midnight" release day thing, but I'm sure some people were thinking "hey, I can get it earlier if I stand in line from 8pm".
(Of course, if you were at one of the other locations this is irrelevant speculation and I don't know why it was so crowded last night.)
Patty also pointed out to me that the 24-hour store (which is where we were) is a tourist attracting and not the best choice for where I should by my Mac at all since I'm so sensitive to crowds.
Every time I go into an Apple store I come out with sensory overload and I usually don't have that problem. Everything is so bright in that store...it's disconcerting at times.
