  • Forwarding Lou Dobbs's racist misreprentations of U.S. legislation to mailing lists about Harry Potter? Makes you an asshole. I was good though and wrote to the moderator asking him to ban all political discussion on the list, lest I need to call this person out publicly. Apparently that's being worked on.

  • Yesterday made me grumpy and insecure. Today I'm still a little bogged down in the aftermath of it, but things are looking up, but mainly only because today is not yesterday.

  • For everyone who is all like "OMG WTF!" at the James Moran story in Consequences, I pause to remind you that Ianto Jones is a lying liar who lies and who really digs James Bond. This is Ianto through Ianto's eyes where maybe he says there were 10 guys when there were six, and puts in all the quips he thought of as opposed to just the ones he said -- which doesn't mean he's not awesome.... just, you know. Third person narrative can do tricksy things like this, and assuming this is actually what the fuck Moran was doing (and I've no idea), it's brilliant. Otherwise, yes, slightly odd, but hey, the Whoniverse has no canon, so what do I care?

  • The rules of English language capitalization are harder than you think. At least they're harder than I thought until I had to sit down and write a document explaining them.

  • I left my mobile at home. If you need me, don't call, email.

Sounds like another character (of somewhat poorer dress-sense) I might care to name...

Oh, good grief at the HP mailing list. Yeah, you'd think the mod would call out political discussion on that list anyway as being offtopic.

By the time I turned off email forwarding on that list, most of the discussion was OT.

    The list-wide email went out.

Even with the group email, it's still so much head desk for me. I felt so embarrassed.

Also, to be frank, I don't believe her when she says it was an accident. Of course, the first SENTENCE she ever uttered to me was homophobic, so I have a hard time with her.

I wouldn't be surprised. I'm very close to her, so it's sort of like when a parent is racist/sexist/homophobic. I just sort of sit there for five minutes afterwards and am like 'Ja wha? Noooo! Don't say that, it's bad.' But it doesn't really help, unfortunately.

*nod* If I had had any prior experience of her before that moment, I could see being able to overlook or discuss these issues with her calmly, but timing failed on that one.

Yeah understandable. I think one of things that most annoys me about this that whether it was by accident, she still believes this stuff. And that's upsetting.

Well, sadly, CNN has a reputation of being neutral, despite the blatherings of Lou Dobbs so even somenoe who wasn't part of the Faux News Vortex could have been taken in by this one.

I have a very thorough idea of how hard they are. I took French Immersion from the time that I was in Kindergarten until grade 12 so although I learned to read in English I learned to write in French. French has its own, equally complex idea of capitalization which means that I am doubly screwed and perpetually confused on that point. I also have to stop and think every time I go to spell the word "blue". Overall, I'm really glad I did it, but oy vey, it does lead to some odd variations in my writing.

You have my sympathies and admiration for tackling the topic:-D

Yours hopefully doesn't have access to firearms (because if yours is like our cats, it would just try to eat said alien weaponry and no one wants a cat that shoots lasers out of its eyes every time it purrs).

    And coffee.

Ianto is a self-aware and insecure kind of guy; that makes us good liars, because even though we don't think we're awesome (we so are) we can convince other that we're just grand and dandy.

Can you direct me the James Moran story in Consequences. Is this a book or something else?

It's a book called Consequences that is a bunch of Torchwood short stories. Was released on October 1. I got mine from BookDepository.co.uk which ships pretty much anywhere for free.

Oh this is a dilemna. I've sworn not to buy anything that will support RTD/BBC's destruction of TW or indicate that I'm a fan of CoE. I just may have to hope that the local library buys a copy.
