(no subject)

My dreams have turned musical again (probably thanks to watching Hugh Jackman on Inside the Actors Studio before bed... well, that followed by Alan Cumming's awful, but weirdly watchable talk show on Oxygen). Anyway, my dream featured, among other things, a balloon arch of dark blue, light blue, and white ballons stretching around the planet, a cell phone store that turned into The Gap, a guest appearance from Kat, and a song, that scarily enough I can still remember the tune and words to: "Australia, A Country Where Weird Things Happen." And I wasn't reading the Bill Bryson book before bed either.

I really, really, really want to get paid today. I have bills to pay, life to lead, and one of my favourite CDs ever (which I lost ages ago and have been unable to replace) has been reissued. Owning it will make me very happy. Also, I _desperately_, need to pick up my new order of headshots.

Now on an entirely seperate note... Whale Rider! I saw this last night. Oh my god. I have no idea why I have this relationship with this movie (or what it's about really), but oh my god. As an aside, it's structural similarities to The Piano are pretty weird.

Whale Rider.

Definitely my top favorite movie from last year. I loved it. It's not like any other movie about child/adult relationships. I was pulling for Keisha Castle-Hughes to win the Oscar if Charlize Theron didn't. She was/is phenomenal!

Saw most of "Whale Rider" on tv the other night. It is amazing, and I adore the girl and her seriousness and can totally see why the whole thing would resonate strongly with you. How could it not?

Someone (I think [livejournal.com profile] sola once said that they felt I kinda looked like the girl, and I kinda get it, in terms of how she uses her face, and all that. I don't think I've ever had such a strong feeling of seeing someone like me on screen, that comes neither from looks or subject matter really.

Also, I love Maori stuff. Her grandfather's face.... just, stunning.

I can see that.

Whale Rider shook me up for days. It's the girl, the archetypal stuff, the gender stuff. And then there is the Lisa Gerrard music.

What's the CD?

This says too much about me -- but Marc Almond's The Stars We Are, which amond other things has the last thing Nico ever recorded on it.
