I guess a person like that would find the whole sci-fi fan convention thing bizarre (OMG, look at all the freaks!), but if her close friend is "one of them" then she's not entirely disconnected.
And I'm guessing Hope would find it very helpful to have friends is strategic places :P
So, what's Jean's story? What does she do for a living? How did she get into that stuff?
