best thing on the Internet today

The Republicans seek advice from the Internet, then have to deal with the fact that they got some.

In some places it's hard to tell if it's satire or good ol' Republican bigotry. In others... well, you do want a race of super-fast dolphins, don't you?

Ooopsie.

LOL! Thank you. :D

Go mess with the site, it's even more awesome. People are being total fuckers. Yay Internet.

Oh don't tempt me...

And yay internet indeed! *twirls it*

As long as those super fast dolphins aren't mammals, heaven forfend!! AHAHAHAHAH. I laughed so hard.

oh i am going to have all kinds of fun with this!

I love the message that this is (belatedly) the way for Americans to communicate with their Republican Congressional representatives. By contrast, I don't need a "megaphone" because my representative is available by telephone.

"Abortions for some, tiny American flags for others!"

Sounds like the wonkette.com people are representing in force. Awesome.

[identity profile] gement.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I heard about this one last night, including some of the prize winning suggestions which use "Nazi" as a verb... and of course:

"We need to ensure that the Republicans never give us up, let us down, run around, or desert us."

[identity profile] rexluscus.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
The title of that article should be 'Republican Base Shows Unexpected Interest in Dolphins.'

[identity profile] gement.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
New prize-winning poor choice from the site! I looked at the registration page, and check out the (non-optional) avatar selection.

- White people apparently only have black or blonde hair.
- There is no light-brown with black-hair combination so apparently Native Americans and Asians don't exist
- if you don't want to buy into the blatant racial profiling on a massively Republican site, your only option is a dark-shadow "anonymous informant" image which looks really sinister
- Even the anonymous informant options are strongly gendered

I know we're not dealing with a group that's necessarily strong on the fine points of Internet politics, but if you're going to offer icons that are supposed to "look like me," the least you could do is offer a Pick Skin, Pick Hair palette and a neutral No Identifiers option in light green.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I bet they thought they were being really progressive.

[identity profile] misch.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
They are!.

Shoot, there was a much better link for this than Wonkette. But it'll do.

well, you do want a race of super-fast dolphins, don't you?

That depends -- do they come with lasers? ;P

[identity profile] thatwordgrrl.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Dammit! You beat me to it!

[identity profile] stardragonca.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
There's no need to use language. That's what I always say.

[identity profile] stardragonca.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
Good heavens! Why on earth have I not friended you back. What a dreadful and most inexplicable lapse!

[identity profile] laughingacademy.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I read as far as "Republicans seek advice from the Internet" and started laughing. I guess they never saw this:

I *wondered* if someone would have that pic to hand. Thank you!

[identity profile] cpolk.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
...I am still laughing.

It seems that the techs that the Republican hired did not quite make the servers robust.

[identity profile] sparkindarkness.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh republicans, they should have known better.

They found the internet and found it full of snarky liberals :) Go back to talk radio :P

If I were running for public office, and I had no idea what policies I actually wanted to advocate for once I was elected, I hope I would at least be ashamed of my ignorance. I hope I would not broadcast my ignorance by inviting the entire Internet to give me suggestions.

My contribution assuming that I can get it to post. Their servers are being very slow.

Wow...

I hope a lot of it is satire!

LOL @ the 'Harold Saxon for President' suggestion!

Oh dear. I laughed so hard! Weep for the country, but laugh hard nonetheless.

Thanks for sharing.
