*waves at the new people*

Since there's been a recent influx, here's the "ask random questions" post. If you've got a question for me (whether you're new here or not), feel free. No topic is off-topic.

Meanwhile, for the people involved in the hyphenated-American conversation (or the Florida doctor experimenting on pregnant women to prevent "gender inappropriate" behavior in girls) -- LJ isn't emailing me my comments today. I'm sort of trying to keep up, but am actually pretty lost. I hope you all are getting comments though or having fun amongst yourselves or something. I'll catch up soon.

Finally, for those who aren't here for the ranting and the politics but for the porn: I've figured out the Jack/Ianto long BDSM fic I"ve threatened to write. So yeah. Probably won't touch it until after Bristol. But writing it, yes.

Now, dinner time, and Patty and I have some Buffy to watch.

My introduction to the world of fanfic was a Voyager story in which Janeway was revealed to be a MTF , and she takes Chakotay by surprise.

"the last really cool thing I did was the voices of Desire and Delirium in "The Sandman" in a fundraiser for the CBLDF last year."

Whaaaaa??? How did I miss this? Is it available?

Ugh, I hate those guys so much! Fucking assholes, placing bets on their friend's marriage and talking shit about Elizabeth through the whole thing. Of course I was going to tell them about it. I have no loyalty to those turds.

But my friend did call me tonight and asked me if there were one person whose autograph he could get for me, who would it be, since he felt bad about how he was such a dick about the whole thing. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DECIDE THIS. I'm leaning toward Brent Spiner/LeVar Burton combo, but...but...MARSTERS!

This brings back frightening memories of the mnemonic you used to teach me (and several others at the same time) how to correctly pronounce it.

:)

+1

I wish hats would come back into fashion, although not in a compulsory way.

This is something I did not know!

Ditto on the hat picscam... now I know the real reason you got into "White Collar" :P

Very interesting!

Did you always want to pursue acting? If you didn't want to pursue acting, what would you do? What is something that you still want to do?

I agree, times a billion.

I don't even know how many times I've seen a hat store, got excited, went in and ALL BASEBALL CAPS, WHAT!?

Do you still have The Hat? I know I saw it when I was in NYC the time before last, but that was, you know, 2003.

[identity profile] laura47.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
how did you and Patty meet? If that's for internet-consumption!

[identity profile] speedingslug.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
Who is your favorite Doctor and why?

[identity profile] gwyd.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
I was actually just wondering what you thought of the character death on this season's Who? There's been some debate in certain circles and upset and it seemed up your intellectual alley.

[identity profile] hoyland54.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Umm... do you mind if I friend you?

Also, to make this at least slightly interesting, what's the most unexpectedly cool or interesting place you've been? (Cool and interesting aren't meant to be synonymous there, so I'm afraid it's not the clearest question ever.)

Ayup.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the way any kid wants attention, yeah. Mostly I want to tell stories and be other people. Acting is just one part of that.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I've only seen two episodes so far. I'll probably marathon it this weekend.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
All good. Welcome!

That's a hard question, as I get to go to a lot of cool places and am a big fan of serendipity so a lot of sort of odd, magical shit tends to happen to me. For a not too exotic place, I remain floored by how really emotionally affected I am by Chicago's Millennium Park for no particular reason.

Most of the places I've really loved I knew that would happen going into it. But I suppose St. Katharine's Dock market in London is quite a thing for me. Patty and I stumbled on it randomly right after we landed in London and I've actually arranged my schedule on my next trip to make sure I get there, forgoing something else of emotional and scholarly interest to me in order to make it happen. God, that's a weird answer.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
First, I'm only familiar with new Who.

Second, I feel like I really have to defend this, because it's not about wanting to bang David Tennant (not that there's anything wrong with that). But Ten. I'm interested in his really shit relationship with his own power and respond pretty strongly to his fucked up relationship with Jack as awesome ex-boyfriend superheroes. I love the arc that puts Rose in the other universe (I don't necessarily love what they do with her after that) and LOVE "Waters of Mars."

All of this said, the episode that made me fall in love with the show is a Nine episode, "Dalek." I wish Eccleston were less the way he is about his time on the show.

We met on [livejournal.com profile] _riverside a community for discussing [livejournal.com profile] ellen_kushner's Swordspoint and related books. Since she's an academic and I keep swords by the bed, it was a bit, excuse the pun, on point. Since we live in the same city, we met after flirting a lot (involving a very fucked up night in a bar with some dude who wanted to be our friend and kept telling us stories about the omlettes his ex-gf made him while wearing only a thong). Being chicks, we were circumspect for a while and then finally got together. Then, thanks to my ex-roommate moving to China and the horrors of NYC's real estate market, Patty moved in. Now it is yay.

[identity profile] sillermoon.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
We're watching it straight through right now. Just started S2. I am strangely interested in who you paired up :D

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a benefit performance, not a recoding, so alas, no.

[identity profile] speedingslug.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I have to agree with you on some of that, personally I'd go with Eccleston I love him in Dalek it's one of the only time I've ever seen The Doctor scared of anything. But my favorite would have to be The Empty Child, that episode had everything. I do like Tennant but it took a while and to be honest I've took to Smith a lot faster. Also the whole gun thing was a tad annoying I wish RTD didn't try to ram things down the veiwers throats at times.

As for Classic who I can't really bring myself to watch it again, I do like Tom Baker but this is because he was my first Doctor more than anything else.

Sorry. I didn't mean to spoil you.
