  • Patty continues to chug along with her comps. I continue to sleep off Dragon*Con. We have dates for when her parents are visiting before she heads to Cardiff, and things are coming together. I'm really looking forward (although her moreso, surely) to the comps getting finished so we can reconnect in some way other than propping each other up in the face of chaos.

  • I am continuing to make progress with my Dragon*Con recaps, but I did a lot of panels, so it's going to take a while.

  • Last night I went to Eataly. It's pretty cool. It reminded me not just of European food halls and not just of the smells of Italy, but also (because it's on my mind and has a huge Italian population and great Italian food), Sydney. I got a few goodies to bring home.

  • [livejournal.com profile] bifemmefatale's daughter has been found and wants to go home. So that's happening right now. Go team Internet!

  • Rahm Emmanuel may be the most interesting guy in politics. The narrative may be about to get more interesting, as he considers running for mayor of Chicago.

  • Anyone catch Meghan McCain on Rachel Maddow last night? Credit where credit is due, because she's a reminder that Republicans aren't the enemy; extremism is. Which is to say (because this has been weighing on me lately), if I've been a douche to my Republican friends lately, I'm sorry. I should not assume that the current extreme views tearing your party apart speak for you.

  • Apparently, Google Instant doesn't think lesbians or bisexuals exist or that the terms are too incendiary to provide immediate results. I suspect it's because of how much porn for straight, cisgendered men those terms are likely to bring up, and woah, not safe for work. But, this is not okay. via [livejournal.com profile] ladyofthelog in comments. And yeah, I tested it myself; these terms do not return Google Instant results.

  • Meanwhile the fake GallifreyOne attendee is at it again.

I also wanted to add that I now have enough in the bank to cover an MRI, and any monies that don't go towards the MRI will go into treatment. Your post was a big part of that. Thank you so much.

Yay! How was it? Did they have any kind of GF section worth speaking of?

Nooooooo. Which is annoying since Italy has such great products. Hopefully my requests will help.

It really has been nothing short of a miracle. The influx of orders means that if we do end up taking out a loan (in the case surgery is necessary), we are a) much more likely to get one and b) much more likely to be able to pay it off in a timely manner. This is an awesome headstart, and we've also got some great leads on a cat hospital that offers payment plans and the like.

    I am amazed.

I understand your point about extremism, and not Republicans per se, being the enemy. But the "normal" Republicans let the extremists in, and let them take over, and they really need to get called down on _that_.

Oh, absolutely. But with Fox news out there feeding the extremists, I'm not even sure what a moderate, non-famous Republican would do to counteract the birthers and the bigots.

Agreed, alas. It's no longer about right and wrong, it's about winning and losing, it seems; and those who don't hew to the birthers' line seem to be called losers even if they're backing a winning ideology.

ISTR seeing on the BBC News that even some Democrats in certain constituencies are running against their own President's policies.

That happened in the Clinton years too.

I don't think that they do. At least not any more than every Muslim has to spend all their energy apologizing for Muslim extremism that they are likely to hate more than the rest of us. Between fighting against the wingnuts and fighting us, they've got no time left to use their good sense to improve the world.

    ...depressingly, that doesn't surprise me.

I saw a link to this (Juan Cole discussing extremism and nativism, and how it's nothing new) on friendsfriends and thought of this thread.

via [livejournal.com profile] automaticdoor - Google Instant (the thing that lets you search in real time as you type your search term in) is displaying an empty screen when you search for "lesbian" or "bisexual." Related terms seem to be unaffected.

I'm profoundly conflicted on Rahm Emmanuel considering a Chicago run. I'd like to see him do cool things, but the Dems are kind of floundering and I'm leery of further destabilization.

Meghan McCain makes me happy, though.

I think as narrative Emmanuel getting to be mayor of Chicago would be gorgeous. I think it's bad for Obama. He needs people who aren't nice around him.

Also, Gally is announcing its panel schedule soon, so if you want to submit something, do it today.
