You have an ability to inhabit whatever outfit you wear and make it work.
That being said, when I think back over all of the pictures I've seen of you over the years, the one that stands out if you're wearing a dress:
I think you were at a con (Vegas?). You were posed by a piano wearing a simple, beautifully cut, black evening dress. You looked glamorous, elegant and stunning. A stand out look that works anywhere.
Doing that sort of look you don't need earrings. A string of pearls or a piece of statement jewelry at the neck or on your wrist/arm. A shoulder wrap of some kind if needed.
That dress is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too dress for the occassions in question.

Even if (or especially if) you take it off right at the door, do wear a great jacket or bolero or something in a contrasting shade. Having it means you can strategically take it off and show off arms and tattoo even more. I've been trying to find a bolero in translucent stuff, but I have this thing about wanting a jacket for armor regardless of the situation. (I suppose lace would be very fashionable right now but I generally loathe the stuff.)
No white if you're going to be around the hipsterati. Many of them will be in white to show off their tans, and it will annoy you.
I generally loathe the one-shoulder thing too, but it does get attention.
I do the same thing re: earrings and short hair. I usually default to a faux-vintage rhinestone hair clip or hair jewelry instead, and I know you've rocked the "enormous flower behind ear" look. (A very large rhinestone hair clip or brooch also works well as a dress ornament at the cleavage or shoulder strap, and that look's in again, and ten times less icky if you attach the brooch yourself instead of buying a dress with an applique, IMO.) Or a big chunky necklace.
I vote for dark jewel tones - there's a lot of stuff in the navy and purple families out now - and in a print or non-monotone if you can manage it. There's also a lot of lace-overlay things, and you could totally rock a vintage-styled black lace over skintone dress. Or black lace over red. (Think Fifties prom dress, not Madonna.)
