I think it's a thing. It's a paper on haberdashery waiting to happen-- how this clothing item, co-opted from the working classes and made into something that can command $500 a pair, has become so ubiquitous as to have qualifying adjectives denoting the context in which they may be appropriately worn. Kinda hilarious, but not.
