link request

I am off to my class reunion. I may need some _serious_ entertainment when I get home.

So, your task, should you choose to accept it:

Link me to your favorite media interview with a famous person. Doesn't matter if I care about their stuff or have even heard of them. It's the performance of identity I'm interested in at the moment (or, at least, imagine I will be after surviving my 20-year high school reunion).

Merci.

(This message brought to you by: for fuck's sake, once every couple of years you go digging for and almost can't find the same stupid interview. You know what's your friend? Bookmarks and the save button. Oi.)

I love this one. cracks me up.

one of the only people who can run circles around letterman and be charming whilst doing so.

I know you are going to be fab tonight, but I also know it is really nerve wracking and can be up stuff. xo

I see your RDJ and call with some funny moments from a series of interviews:

You've doubtless seen it already, but:

I had to go back and watch the whole thing. Fantastic.

I may be a bad person: the first thing to come to mind was Terry Gross's interview with Gene Simmons.

[identity profile] missysedai.livejournal.com 2010-10-10 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
You're not a bad person, you're a very good person! I love that interview, laughed myself SICK when I heard it. I really dislike Terry Gross, and it was a lot of fun to hear Gene take the wind out of her pretentious sails.

I saw KISS perform recently in Detroit, and it was a PHENOMENAL show.

I don't even know what to make of this, and I've loathed the ICP since my meth head sister started listening to them. But it is certainly bizarre, bizarre reading.

ICP really evangelical

Not an interview, but A Talk. I love Neil Gaiman to distraction, and I'm still jealous that my bestie was in the audience for this talk.

This might not be a typical interview, but it's certainly awesome -- Inside the Actor's Studio with Robin Williams.

It's not a video, but the interview that Tom Hardy did recently for Men's Health UK is pretty brilliant. It got me really inspired, in a lot of ways, which I was NOT expecting.

One of my favorites: Stephen Fry talks with Craig Ferguson. Part 1 is here, and the other parts are linked in the sidebar as usual for YouTube.

Alejandro Jodorowsky: I like violence!

Nina Hagen: God is my best friend. I think there are better interviews with her in English but this one is still pretty cool.

More violence! Werner Herzog gets gut-shot during interview.

Okay, Brendon Small isn't very famous person, but he is the co-creator & writer of Metalocalypse and writes, plays all the guitars (on the show & CDs) of Dethklok. It's an animated show on Adult Swim about a death metal band.

He was on Last Call w/ Carson Daly this past week. Here http://www.nbc.com/Last_Call_with_Carson_Daly/video/brendan-small/1253661/

Also: Steve Jobs's commencement address for the 2005 Stanford graduation. What I mostly got out of it was two things:

1) He totally turns the audience around
2) He talks about the importance of the seemingly insignificant

That, out of all the links on the page so far, is the one I watched all the way through, and it brought tears to my eyes.

I've watched many interviews of many famous people and I really should do the whole bookmarking thing, because now I can only recall all the interviews I've been watching of Tom Hardy!

Even though you already have one linked up there, his interview with Jonathan Ross was really, really fun!

Part 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrMh4cRH6e0) and Part 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcI9fXNRZAw).
I love what he says about accents, because I do that too!

Not a video but you should see this - alas - and maybe ensure that it has a US airing, 'cause as far as I can see at the moment, it's not getting much play anywhere but Europe: Protesters battle police to try to stop gay pride march in Belgrade. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11507253

1. Stephen Colbert delivering the 2006 commencement at Knox (Part 1) (I feel weird about linking to another commencement, but when they're good, they're soo good)
2. Not, uh, an interview, strictly speaking, but Jason Mraz on Sesame Street.

I am particularly fond of this excerpt where Noel Fielding talks about Salvador Dali on Modern Masters. It's not just what he says about art that's revealing about his own relationship to it, but the physicality of the interview. The camera person sees him as a piece of art, highlighting his clothing and physicality (e.g. that he sits on the desk rather than the chair, pans down to his gold boots) speaks volumes in a visual way about the interviewee, in a show about the power of visual art.

Recent interview by BBC Newsnight of Russell Brand--I'm a fan of his particular sort of super-articulate humor, especially combined with his dandyism and self-awareness.

It's not like I watch a lot of interviews, and actually I'm not even sure it'd qualify as an interview, but I like this one: 60 Seconds with Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Having just finished reading his biography, here's a link to part 1 of Warren Zevon's last performance on The David Letterman Show; he was the only guest that night, and he mentions his terminal lung cancer. The entire show, in parts has been posted.

I'm a big fan of Glenn Gould's self-interviews.

Glenn Gould interviews Glenn Gould about Glenn Gould

Here's a snippet, from minute 2 to the end:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESux0oQiBZY

Or you can read the article:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/glenngould/028010-4020.07-e.html

I like this as an interview because he doesn't talk about himself all that much, but his voice is so consistent and classical that you cannot help but get a sense of the person from the interview.

I also love the fake reviews of his own works that he did as alternate personalities, well-known cliches of the classical reviewer type.
