ETA: See the question that box asks now? That's not what it used to say. The original question asked which Harry Potter character would you submit to a pat down and why if you were TSA for Hogwarts.

What LJ was thinking: two hot topics get exponentially hotter together.

What LJ actually did: trivialized a significant political and individual rights issue in the US and effectively asked people what fictional characters they'd like to sexually assault.

Sexual assualt: not hot or funny.

The erosion of personal freedom and the application of a whole lot of -isms in the name of security theater: also not hot or funny.

*sigh*

Yup. I'm wondering who approves the questions for WB, because this isn't the first time we've had questions on there made of Epic Fail.
/eta: or writersblock mods *silently* backtracking when there's an enormous backlash from the userbase. We See Wut U Did Thar.

While I still have my unsure feelings on how I feel about the new pat downs; this question is ridiculous and wrong.
It also reminds me that not everyone is as honest and non creepy as me, or the TSA agent who patted me down earlier this month. It makes me feel more uncomfy with the pat down than I was before I read it.

Looks like they just changed the question. (I really mean *just*, too; the old question is in my friends-page tab, and the new one is in the entry tab that I created a minute or two later.)

And they made it retroactive to everyone's post now. So now prior respondents want to have "feeling up Snape" as their favorite magic spell. ::facepalm::

Doesn't changing the question in place like that just make things all kinds of confusing without actually fixing the problem?

Or, haven't we learned by now that you can't unsay something stupid on the Internet?

I think there could be some non-FAIL answers... although, honestly I expect that's the sort of thing that would mostly generate FAIL so hey LJ... set thinking hat to ON next time right?

(less-fail answers... Neville, it's always the quiet ones; The DADA teacher, they keep turning out to be evil so my profiling says...; Snape, suspicious git that he is)

Oh and they've changed it... thinking hat woke up perhaps?

Yeah, and the original question was also titled "what's under Snape's cape" or something, so the implication that it was about sexual groping was high.

Ugh, I saw that.

Also FWIW, this stupid fucking TSA mess is making me slightly reconsider visiting america next year. I might just have to suck it up about going outside the country for the first time to somewhere I don't speak the language and go to Japan after all -.-

A certain woman who sometimes teases me groped my breasts without permission twice this year, and I found it threw me off kilter for several days, and still slightly throws me off kilter when I'm reminded of it now.

I don't know how a TSA pat down would affect me :/

Given how much it's fucking around people who unlike me don't have the luxury of choosing not to go? Not to mention survivors, trans* people who aren't out, people who would face societal/religious backlash for getting touched that way?

Really, really unthinking and inappropriate of LJ. Glad they changed it, disappointed they didn't also put in an explanation and apologise.

Man, if the fuck-you-very-much-the-TSA keeps me from getting to meet you, I am going to be such a pissy Sor.

I will have to set the world-takeover plans into motion earlier than previously anticipated, I suppose.

IKR.

I think it won't stop me. But it has flipped me from "EXCITING ADVENTURES NEXT YEAR" mode into "ACK SO MANY THINGS COULD GO WRONG what if I get lost and they lose my luggage and they detain me for questioning and then later when Im wandering around in america I get kidnapped and robbed and then everyone I go to visit isn't there and I'm like how do I move around in this strange country and then the airport people turn up and are like we think you're a spy also you have socialist ideas and put me in a detainment facility that is not allowed by international law but apparently america doesn't care about this and then I never see my friends and family again?!?!" mode.

Pleeeeease don't let all that keep you from comin' to 'Merca. You're clever and practical and functional, and not the star of a terrible movie.

Also, I at least promise that I will be there when you visit me. Can't swear it for everyone, but yeah.

Alsoalso, if you get put into a detainment facility, I will get a bunch of people together and we will rescue you.

I first read that as which Harry Potter character you would like to have submit you to a pat-down. Yeah, much more nausea-inducing the way it was actually written.
