Like I said, I'm not disappearing from here.

And I'm still tweaking stuff over there very aggressively, so looks and links may change.

*reads the first 3 sentences of the last paragraph* Do you have to know someone in meat space to consider them your friend?

Nope. But I am REALLY touchy about my name and that nickname is a privilege of having met me for whatever reason (honestly, I don't know! but I know I feel weird when people I haven't met call me "Rach" unless I've told them they could, which doesn't happen very often and usually involves people I've talked to on the phone or email). I suppose more accurately it's a "if we only interact on LJ" thing.

I...hope you would've told me if my calling you Rach (either personally, when talking to you, or publicly, when referring to you in my journal). If not, I hope you'll tell me now.

(Calling people by the names they want to be called by, in the spellings them want used (including fiddly things, like the correct placement of the punctuation in jere7my's name (there's a \ in his middle name, and a ? in the last) and granting people uninterested in the uppercase the courtesy of spelling their name entirely with the lower (like mek, or my friend draz)) is a Very Big Thing for me. You are a person I like, so certainly I want to refer to you in the proper manner.)

We're good. Believe me, people hear about the name thing like they hear about the "don't touch me without permission." If I react to it, I REALLY react to it.

It is not, however, named Letters from Titan because I am in any way related to a mythological giant who eats babies...

FYI, that seems to be pulling the comments feed, instead of the entries feed.

Putting in a support request to fix it to the entries feed.

I'm not sure why that would happen, since I used the URL of the page itself.

OK, both the entries and the comments are feeding, and I have no idea why. That doesn't happen on any of the other blogs I follow.

Thoughts?

I'm glad you specified how you like to be called by people who don't really know you, since now I know how to think of you in my head. Things like that are always good to know.

The full first name is fine if we haven't met if you prefer that one way or the other to RM (both are syllabicly annoying, I realize). It's really the impromptu shortenings that get me (the biggest peeve of all is people who call me Rachel. I don't know who that is).

Yeah, that's understandable. I get twitchy when I hand over my debit card at stores and they call me by my first name (doesn't happen as much now with self-swiping, but still).

I still haven't figured out a polite way to tell my brother not to shorten my name from Fiona to 'Fi'. Uh...nobody calls me Fi. Nobody.

Heh. Earlier this year I checked in with my youngest sister to make sure she didn't mind me shortening her name to "Em" (from Emma).

Yeah, asking is good. I think asking things like that directly should be more acceptable in society. It would save a lot of hassle.

This! About gender stuff too. Because if people just ask me stuff, it's cool. When people get all uncomfortable, I get all uncomfortable.

From the standpoint of someone who has scripts turned off for reasons of making web pages load ever (slow internets and/or slow computer) - you've sure got a lot of scripts! Six different scripts running on one page is a bit unusual if you don't have a very feature heavy site. (For example, LJ only has two running on most pages.) It may be out of your hands, but it does work to limit your audience somewhat.

Hey, I appreciate the input, but I'm just using WordPress, which I'm still learning. I don't know how to write scripts or even tell if they are enabled or what they do. WordPress is one of the most popular blogging platforms online. Unless I'm using a particularly evil template or widget (which I suppose one of the other WordPress users here can tell me) I'm somewhere between unconcerned and lacking the skills to be so.

Scripts are how many different sites your site is pulling information from every time it loads. Some sites lack all functionality - not even returning the text - if you don't allow all scripts. Your site doesn't do that, which is awesome! Honestly, it would be pretty far down my page of stuff to take care of if I were in your shoes. I just brought it to your attention in case it was something you weren't aware of *and* was an easy fix for you.

Pretty design! I like it!

Good for you for making another blog. I'd do that, but I have some other online spaces I can't keep up with already! And I really don't have a purpose for it, so, y'know.
