Have heard from Patty, and will likely be able to have some communication with her ever day until Wednesday (when she heads to dig site). This is very good!
It is almost certainly way, way cheaper for her to call you than for you to call her. My bill after Christmas, including hours of calls to Canada was 4000Rs - less than a hundred bucks.
Actually, she has a pay as you go mobile and is somewhere too rural now to add $$ onto it, but her incoming calls are free. I got a calling card thought that's like $10 for 450 minutes, so I think it'll be okay.
