  • Real LfT post later; housekeeping post now: http://lettersfromtitan.com/2011/01/19/housekeeping-on-titan/

  • Gay parenting more common in the south.

  • There are many important news blurbs on Advocate.com today, but I'm finding it exhausting: pervasive anti-gay bias here; rising anti-gay violence there; victory for gay people in this or that lawsuit somewhere else -- all alongside insipid entertainment news, and I just find it soul-sucking.

  • Had White Collar on last night, but wasn't focused enough to actually watch it or have an opinion.

  • Why I look more like a girl when Patty's away: I wear her clothes. A lot.

  • OH GOD SO MANY DVDs -- more about that later.

I have some friends here who are afraid to adopt, because Texas law doesn't recognize same sex couple adoptions. The state is bad about not recognizing out of state adoptions too, and they worry if they tried it would end horribly.

But it is heartening to see another major Texas city high on that list of same sex families.

For whatever reason, San Antonio is the city I've been where I've felt like there was the most visibile gay community. (Who knows, though, I might have been reading non-couples as couples.) I sometimes joke with my friend that there are no straight people in Minneapolis, but it's just a quirk of circles we move in.

When I was in San Antonio, I remember an article about there being a lot of same sex couples with kids in Texas compared to the country as a whole. (I think the statistic is that of same sex couples, more than average have children.) So there's probably good information out there for your friends, but then they probably already have it.

Had a tres creepy dream last night of which you were the star, and one of those weird mornings where it takes significant time to disentangle dream from reality. Glad you are okay (and not about to kill yourself because it is required of the wife of the Mormon Patriarch after 3 years -- no I dunno what the hell that was about).

    I am fine.

The WEIRD part of this dream is that Kali and I just figured out that there's a major plot-point in our novel involving ritual suicide. So there you go.

Least useful form of telepathy EVER. :)

I almost e-mailed you about WC. One thing in particular, actually. If I give you bendy straws at Gally, it's totally out of love.

The gay parenting thing isn't something that would have immediately occurred to me, but makes total sense. Also, makes me really happy (but not in a creepy true-families-are-reproductive/parenting-units type way).

I love this kind of thing in fic, and I have to admit it's very appealing in real life as well. :-)

That's so lucky and sweet that you can wear her clothes! That's something my girlfriend and I can't do because our height/weight ratio is so different (me: 5' 5", her: 4' 10 and a few sizes larger")
