This addresses a couple of discussions that have been swirling through my flist - and my RL, interestingly enough - so well. Thank you for writing it. :)
I've noticed that RPF about dead/historical folks is very popular. One of the funniest examples is the famous person as the sleuth in a mystery series. The first one of those I ever saw featured Elvis Presley, and I recommend reading at least one (they're awful, but they say a whole lot about the author, that's for sure).
I remember another writer getting criticized some years back for a fictionalized version of a tour he was on with the band Cracker. Poppy Z. Brite wrote thinly fictionalized Beatles slash.
My situation as an unrepentant RPS writer is getting more interesting thanks to Twitter. Some of the people I write about have both the time and the inclination to look up their own fan material. One guy mocked the shit out of some badfic written about him. This was a bit awkward, since the girl who wrote it posts her fic in one of my comms. A lot of people rushed to her defense, but I didn't. My view is, if the subjects catch me, so be it. I wrote it, I'll own it.
A lot of people in my fandom are locking their fic now due to nervousness over both LJ and the Twitter fan culture. I've decided to keep going like I've always done: unlocked lj, unlocked in comms, damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead. And we'll see what happens.
