The Oscars, abbreviated
Feb. 28th, 2005 07:00 pmAnyone who knows me at all knows I make something of a point of not dissing on celebrity-spouses (it's something I see on LJ a lot, and it drives me crazy), but wow, Clive Owen's wife = very beautiful. Clive Owen's wife's dress = really ugly, really really ugly.
Chris Rock was so spectacular. Sometimes meaner than was necessary, but ultimately, it always had a payoff, whether it was in Sean Penn's bizarre, solemn and oddly beligerant defense of Jude Law (poor Jude Law) or P. Diddy just looking pissed -- I was very, very satisfied. Also, we've all wanted to say that about Tim Robbins for years, yeah? And dude the thing about Bush and The Gap vs. Banana Republic was inspired.
Not having seen Million Dollar Baby, I can't comment on a lot of the results, but I'm glad Cate Blanchett won, and am glad Morgan Freeman was recognized although I wish it had been in a different year. Hillary Swank is starting to inexplicably annoy me, and Halle Berry was hotter when was was still okay with being black and didn't have the "I'm the chick who cried at the Oscars" as her sole identity (because really "star of Catwoman" will not cut it). There were some classy speeches, but ultimately, much of the show was really, really boring. Many of the dresses were just quite odd classic Hollywood numbers that almost worked except for some really poorly executed bits of deconstruction. And, why was Rene Zellwigger trying to look like Jessica Rabbit? She boggles me more and more.
If you can't tell, I am really really tired.
