So it's really bad. Terrible script, and yeah, JRM's performance is as mindblowing as all the critics said, but the script is so bad, the performance is more than too much for everything else going on around it. But it's eerie. Because aside from it being a perfectly good representation of Elvis, it also has that ineffable JRM quality tacked over the top of it, which is heedless ambition -- cruel if it weren't so naive -- it's what made Brian Slade work in Velvet Goldmine, it's what makes him crackle as an often minor villan in all sorts of other things. And it makes the performance here far more eerie than just a really good Elvis mimic, because it's like Elvis in the universe right next door, and it makes you marvel at the phenomena, the frenzy, that such a thing could have happened here or anywhere, now that pop-culture is just so damn expected.

Mesmerizing article on Dubai: http://travel2.nytimes.com/2005/05/08/travel/08dubai.html
Ah... it's that once a quarter useless pathology #876: "If I were a man, I'd already be a star."

Grrrrrowly.

On an infinitely more amusing note, I have an audition tomorrow for an industrial for Haddassah. I'm just going ot keep adding random d's and s's to that until I spell it right.

Also, have gotten really great (useful and positive) feedback on the first play, and should be able to have a final draft by this weekend. I also should be able to complete the first draft of something I've had in the hopper for a couple of years tonight. I don't want to _be_ a playwright, but learning to think this way, and having another way to tell the stories that are important to me is making me very happy and is going to prove valuable to the larger picture (and will probably serve to find an opportunity to exorcise the directing bug). Regardless, both will be sent out to festivals producing things this weekend, and so ever onward.

And (oh shit), yet another script idea... just now... think it's a short film, not stage though. Related to a halloween story of mine that only a handful of you know. Oh...._daaaaamn_.

So nice to be creative again. So lusting after the camera a filmmaker in my NIDA class had.

I feel like I need to sit on my hands to calm down, but the day job is data entry.
