doh!

Hey, if you ever want to do something really stupid and painful, I can't recommend enough dropping metallic green sealing wax on your hand from about an inch away. FUCK that hurt, and, in fact, is continuing to, ferociously. Blistery metallic fun. It's so totally going to scar too.

As summarized to my roommate, more or less:

Good news:
the work is beautiful
the track lighting is funny
the place has even more natural light that I remember
there's a perfect nook for the cat box
it's not a stall shower, but a small tub.
the smoke alarm/carbon monoixde thing is fine.
I like the neighborhood much more than I thought I did.

Bad news:
- we need security gates on two windows
- the building doesn't have a buzzer system yet
- it was much smaller than I remembered it, although empty apartments always look that way to me, and of course we saw it without the addition of kitchen cabinets. I think we're good, but we really will need a cleaning person to come in and as much as we can get rid of before the move is a good thing.
- Hey, we don't have a refrigerator yet. They know this, it'll be there before we move in. Based on the problem they're having laying out the kitchen (someone mismeasured something) it looks like it will be unavoidably smaller than teh current fridge. This is fine, we'll be less filthy. it better not be one of those half-heigh jobbies though.

I'm feeling more than a bit stressed. Someone tell me it's fine and beautiful?
I am a ball of angst.

I am getting stuff done on the packing front though, which is good.

Unfortunately, I cut the heel of my hand on the tape dispenser. So that's two stupid, painful injuries to my hands in as many days (and of course it's one on each hand -- I keep lancing the blister from last night's burn incident, but it keeps filling back up with crap). I am however managing to refrain from intentionally making things worse for myself though, which is a pretty significant achievement.

I keep trying to remind myself that a small, clean apartment with a regular cleaning person equals the same amount of liveable space as a large messy apartment. And Megan and I each have doors now.

Tomorrow night we're going to go up to the apartment with a tape measure and discuss layout and see what the fuck is up with the refrigerator situation. I'll also get the new cat things to bring up then, and will pay for the security gate installation. Perhaps I'll also bring my wood and iron key plaques that hang over my bed. They're one of two home decor items that I'm a) extraordinarily attached to) and b) I don't consider to be of my own selection (people in my head man), and they have become what makes a place homey to me. Maybe that will help.
